I don't know much about the tube frame Buells and need help. I have a customer wanting to know about aftermarket air cleaners available for his 1996 S1 Lightning. I only know of the Forcewinder but not about how it performs. What do you all recommend for performance? |

forcewinder is a very close competitor to the factory race intake -- dyno runs show very little diffence between the two -- the others available may look zoomy, but generally degrade performance |

If the customer has long legs, he'll like the 'winder... rt |

I had one of those Force thingies,it was on the bike when I purchased it, now its jest sittin on the shelf collectin dust.I jest like the looks of the C/F & K/N oval pro style intake. Sporsters are susposed to have oval intakes. |

I've got a 34" inseam and the Pro Series CF airfilter was untenable on my bike. It was an expensive mistake for me. I went back to my old Forcewinder. |

Danny_h_jesternut You wouldn't want to sell the 'winder would you. I sent you a PM. |

I really like my Bartel carbon fiber intake. I'm 6'1" and my legs fit nicely with this air filter. I also like the look of it since its tucked into the frame. Works great! Not sure if they are in production any longer but you see them on e-bay every now and then. Here is a picture of it on my bike. (Mine is painted but they come stock bare carbon fiber)

They were pretty expensive originally, like $300 if I remember right. They use a K&N style washable filter element and the whole setup is very light weight. Fit and finish is excellent. I've seen several appear on e-bay or in the BWB Classifieds. You might post up a wanted ad in the classifieds section for one, someone may just have one laying around. I'll let you know if I see one come up for sale. The bike is no longer for sale. We are having a baby so buying a airplane is out of the picture, the bike's paid for so it will stay (I made sure of that!). I would have really missed it anyways :-) |

I have the force winder on my 96S1, nice looks, good power and excellent leg room. Have the Buell CF race filter on the 99S3 the same as above except not as much leg room. Joe |

The Buell CF race filter sticks out a lot further than the Bartel unit. Hodakaguy |

Hey Chase, If you do set up the bike with the forcewinder be sure to check the knowledge vault regarding the breather port thingy machined in the new model intakes - I guess it has to be relieved to let the carb flow fuel properly. It's pretty easy with a rotary tool. I'm 5'10" and found knee clearance issues with the pro series (race oval) unit. But American Sport Bike sells those now if there aren't any out there from the factory. That Bartel unit sure is nice! Oh yeah, there are dynos of a number of intakes in the k.v. so check it out, that info on the force intake is back quite a ways, just so you're warned... -Mike (Message edited by littlebuggles on February 13, 2007) |
