The truly sad thing is this; the frames showing up on eBay are mostly without titles due to the title going with the engine sale for the construction of custom choppers. (Excuse me a moment while I retch and gag!) What an ignoble end for one of America's true unsung heroes! Court, you're right, of course, and we don't need proof. We know. |

Roger, I took up that task on behalf of Mr. Canfield. Trust me, it is proved. |

I was, a number of years ago, engaged in an interesting hypothetical conversation with a fellow member of The Commonwealth Club. He is a high minded thinker, well paid to see beyond the lit road ahead of him and provide steering inputs to a Fortune 50 firm. Religion was introduced, not so much for it's own sake, but as part of a metaphor I'd used. He retorted that if he couldn't "see" a thing, it didn't exist and was nothing more than "thought". Seated at the dinner table, I picked up my butter knife and his, and pointed toward the nearly 120V 15A duplex electrical outlet, motioned him in that direction and told him . . . go thrust the knives in and tell me if electricity, that you can't see, is "real" or not. |

Toast? Hell, I offer up a CHALLENGE; Go for a ride. Warm those tires up good with a few twisties. Now, find an open section of back-country roads, scrunch back a bit in the saddle, and HONK on that Goose Grip! Run through the gears, throttling back at 90 and settle into a good clip. Now, if your pulse ain't racing and your guts ain't squirming, congratulations...... you're dead. |

I had some time to get out for a ride yesterday- beautiful fall weather. The M2 cyclone was perfect!!! I took it on a gravel road just to see what would happen and we managed to stay up, although at a low speed and careful not to turn sharply. It is truly a do it all machine and I have it set up with small Givi fairing(as seen on Badweb), tank bag, tail bag, saddlebags. I ran a cigarette lighter adapter to a garmin gps and mounted it on the tankbag. This machine does not take a back seat to anybody's sport touring mount. The most fun I ever had on a motorcycle!!! |

Can't overcome my urge to quit lurking and chime in here ... I just put 4000 miles on my 01 m2 on non interstate roads from Kansas City to Seattle and then down to San Diego, all while carrying me, 150 lbs of gear or so and occasionally two females (not at the same time). It was a ton of fun and had no mechanical issues, though I did burn through a rear tire. And it easily outraces moose and buffalo. Here's to the M2. |

M2 riders (men and women) are also the most handsome and attractive Buell owners. Our 401k's do better, our lawns are greener, our children are smarter and more well mannered. The ones that don't have kids (me) also make the best uncles. Did you know that M2's will also clear up acne and shrink hemmoroidal tissues? I could be wrong about the hemmoroid thing... but the rest is all true. |

Well it rained today in the SF Bay area, and right now on craigslist there are 3 different M2's for sale for $3000, 1 for $3500, and 1 for $4200. They all look pretty decent too. Talk about screaming bargain. Goodbye Cyclone, hello MUTANT ! |

Why do I love my Cyclone ('01 M2L)? - R-E-L-I-A-B-L-E! 18,500 miles in 2 years with only a rear rocker cover gasket leak. Tires and routine maintenance also, of course. And that's with the Vermont riding season. - Acceleration/handling. My buddy's RC51 can't lose me.... not even close. - Equally accepted at Harley functions and sportbike functions - Tube frame; good enough for Ducati, good enough for me. - Wow factor. It's amazing how many people ask me about it, after walking right by the sportbikes and custom 'choppers'. - Can you say "American ingenuity"? - Price... Cyclones are the best value on the market. Show me another bike that handles this well and has the power, torque and comfort of a Cyclone that can come close to it in price. - Torque. 'nuf said. |

> R-E-L-I-A-B-L-E! 18,500 miles in 2 years with only a rear rocker cover gasket leak. My bike has less than 10k miles on it. I've put about 4 of them on. Here's what's broken so far: - Leaking primary gasket - Broken detent plate clip on the shift drum - Leaking cam cover gasket (pray this never happens to you) - Leaking starter gasket - Broken exhaust mount - Bad wheel bearing The broken clip and the bad wheel bearing both stranded me many miles from home. The cam cover gasket flung oil all over my back tire and would surely have wrecked me if I hadn't noticed it in time. > Acceleration/handling. My buddy's RC51 can't lose me.... not even close. The M2 is a nimble bike, but the lean angle is unsatisfying. The pegs are so low that I can't put a knee down. I know there are aftermarket parts to fix that, but I don't have $500 to relocate the pegs where they should've been from the factory. I've kept my Cyclone because it has character, it's fun to ride, and the Ulysses doesn't feed my need to scruff up knee sliders, but I have no illusions about it being the best bike evar. It seems like I can't turn around without it springing a new oil leak, and I just don't trust it for long rides. |

Sanchez-- Not to bust your balls, but didn't some of those leaks spring up after you had worked on the bike? As for the busted shifter detent, maybe the previous owner was rough on it, maybe the bike tipped over? Broken exhaust mount--you have the Y hanger? As for the low footpegs, that's why I got an M2, for comfort. If I wanted higher footpegs, I would have picked up an X1... or S1W. For my old ass, the comfort of the M2 is a big advantage... YMMV. Yes there are recall issues... that's what's good about this Web site. I piked up my bike in cherry shape, then proceeded to get after every recall issue/weak link I've found mentioned here. My M2 rocks. I regularly commute 125 miles on I-25 @ 80 m.p.h., no problems, just push the button and go. |

> didn't some of those leaks spring up after you had worked on the bike? Heh, in a manner of speaking. It certainly has broken down after I've worked on it ... just never on any of the parts I've worked on. Everything that's gone wrong has been completely unrelated to the previous problems. After I replaced the wheel bearings, the primary started leaking. I had just bought a new gasket when the detent plate retention clip broke. After I fixed that, it was only about a week before the cam cover started leaking. It's frustrating to get the bike back on the road only to have something else go wrong almost immediately. Knock on wood, it's been mostly oil tight since July when I replaced the starter gasket. It's developed a new mystery rattle now that sounds like it's coming from the exhaust, but I haven't been able to track it down. I can't pinpoint it while I'm riding, and the bike doesn't vibrate at the right frequency when it isn't under load. As for the exhaust mount, I think the bike's previous owner fabricated it. It doesn't match the pictures of Buell race kits I've seen, and H-D doesn't seem to have any replacement parts for it. Here's a picture:

demise, hell,as long as there is an M2 running around somewhere out there they`re not dead-look at the Vincent, more "alive" than ever. Just wait till the pendulum swings the other way and some of those chopper guys, with their swollen hemeroids and destroyed backs start looking at the old dusty frame out in the barn again. |

even if they did make 11,000 odd ,compared with other makes ,that makes em unique and they are only gonna get rarer. XB's, tho Buells, have "lost something" that the tube framers had ,and are far more common, and you could say more mass produced. A mate of mines just bought a Vincent and I shudder to think what he paid for it,but maybe one day the old M2's will be just as sought after, tho I can't see myself ever selling it. |

Here's a picture: That's a 2002 M2? Looks like the p.o. downgraded the hanger to rig up a different pipe... which he also rigged at the tab. I believe the technical term for that type of weld is Booger Bob. So I'm thinking... maybe your other ailments were induced by the p.o. ...? |

Sanchez, Check your header studs!! My mystery exhaust rattle was two missing stud nuts. Some others here have had the studs break, so look for that too. |

Sanchez - parts ARE available still to properly hang the exhaust. (I just bought most of them not more than a month or so ago) You need the following - The upgraded exhaust bracket (Y bracket)you have the pre 2001 L bracket on. It is sold in a kit - but you need not buy the entire kit ($90) - the part will supercede to the updated hanger kit - then you have them break down the kit for the parts you need, you need all but the stock exhaust clamps/straps for the front. The Y bracket is 50 bucks, the newer voltage regulator bracket was only a few bucks, misc. bolts, and the hanger shoe for the front muffler support weren't much. All of which are still available. Let me see if I can dig up all the part #'s.... (I'll edit this post with the #'s) Brian edit: OK - one thing I also noticed - that safety cable should be attached to the front of the muffler body, not the collector on the header.(Service bulletin B-034) Part numbers you need: s1121.g - header support(shoe) s1120.g - clamp (use the one you have) s1001.01a1 - updated exhaust hanger (not sure if that is the kit number or not- if it is not the kit number you still need a spacer, nut and bolt to attach the header support and the voltage regulator bracket - I can't find these part numbers - but they can be found individually if they break down the kit) I can take an up close picture if you want of the parts on the bike. I have to add my .02 here. When I traded my M2 for an XB12S, my gut said don't do it! I should have listened. The XB is a great bike, but I miss the M2. Hands down, the best all around bike ever made. (IMO) Someday I'll own another. |
