2 things!

1)
How do you get the clutch cable out of the plate in the primary?

I've spent an hour and a half on this with no luck. PLEASE tell me there is a trick. I've taken the other end of the cable off of the handle, loosened it all the way, and I've been going at it with needle nose pliers and chewing up the metal end on the cable with no luck whatsoever.

2)
I recieved my new rear shock with bracket and all yesterday. Problem is, the one that's on there (year 2000, old style) the bracket appears to be threaded into the 2 large bolts. But the new bracket doesn't have threads. Like it's supposed to have a nut on the end of the bolt.
I went to the dealership and looked it up in the catalog, and it says there's no nuts at all.

#1...The plate HAS to come out of the primary. Using a thin screwdriver, back out the screw until both little hex plates drop out.And you'll need to readjust the clutch again later(the primary as well as the cable)

The clutch thing has flat spots on it so if the puller is rotated down the whole shebang pops off without any force at all.

The thing about the rear suspension?
Mine has nuts but I can't say with certainty if they are there as lock nuts or not.
I've only had my bolts out once when I upgraded the front exhaust mount.
DON'T FORGET TO SUPPORT YOUR ENGINE WHEN YOU TAKE THESE OUT.

Why should I wash it? It was raining when I drove it last.

Oops and don't forget to support the bike too!

My favorite method is to hoist its butt to the rafters with the rear wheel just bearly touching the ground and then support the engine with an old car jack and some blocks of wood.

Finished the primary!

After I wrote this I went back out and the whole thing basically fell apart in my hands.

That was too easy! What took me 2 hours this time, will take me 10 minutes next time

The suspension will be done tomorrow, and while I was out there today I decided how I was going to jack the bike up, and it's basically exactly what you said!

Good to know it should work!

Thanks for the quick reply's while I was in a panic!

As far as I know, all of the brackets I have seen are not threaded. All had nuts/lockwashers on the bolts.I take it you are doing this without a manual. There is a copy of the S-1 manual in the knowledge vault that would have show you just how to get that cable out--and how to adjust the clutch properly when putting it all back together.

FMJ,

Some front shock mounts were, indeed, threaded. My memory is failing me for exactly when they were used, but I am presuming near the end of production of the 'long shock' front shock mount. The threaded front shock mounts used shorter bolts, fewer washers and obviously no nuts.

If one is trying to put a non-threaded front shock mount on a bike that came equipped with a threaded front shock mount, the proper (longer) bolts, nuts and additional washer(s) would be needed. A peek at the S1 Service Manual on badweb here should show the details of how bikes before (and after) the threaded front shock mounts were built.

Just as another reference point, I held the suspension mount from my '95 S2 in my hands yesterday. It doesn't have any threads in the holes.

FMJ: Progress is being made!

That's weird... We looked up in the 2000 and 2002 Cyclone parts catalogs... and both said there were no nuts.

Well, it came from the factory with no nuts... so wouldn't that just mean it was a girl? No wonder it's so HOTT!

Problem is, I just changed to the new shock... and added nuts. So, did it just go through a sex-change operation?

If, when a doctor removes your tonsils, it's called a tonsillectomy and

when a doctor removes your appendix, it's called an appendectomy...

I guess the procedure transforming a girl person to a boy person would be called (say it fast)

an addadicktome

Newfie,

I would send it if I had it...

I haven't been smoking anything but "Indian weed" at $9/carton for years.

I'm just naturally crazy - or maybe it was the koolaid in the `60s...

Newfie & OZ,
Drew just got a check for $300 from the Univ. of Iowa. It appears that he got paid to smoke that whacky tobaccy for some study. He will get a second chance pretty soon.
What a country!
