well Corey I had no luck with belt at this stage, as dealer was as useful as tits on a bull! guy from Custom Chrome was a little better but because its dosent have Harley written on the tank just wasnt quite helpful enough.
I really want to keep my belt but may have to go chain and sprockets.
Another reason I don't like it for my Buell is the fact there is no cush drive on the rear wheel, just think of the shock on the gearbox components. The belt seems to compensate for no cush drive.
Going to look into it some more hope to find a solution.
On the positive side my 3/4" chrome moly tube has arrived so I can at least get my sub frame mods done.

I got most everything except the front shock mount now. I can definitely see why the mount that you had done works out best. We probably won't be any different in that aspect, took some pictures of my set-up and my helper-my son likes to join in and tell me what to do-he's 2 1/2, but I left the download cable at my main jobsite...
I was worried about that too, but after reading up on the XB chain conversion folks in the XB board I figured it was a moot point. They haven't seemed to have many troubles. I think with the wieght of our flywheels there isn't as much engine braking, like the IL4's, and our power delivery-well might just have to replace a clutch now and again. I think the tranny can handle it, but I may ask someone who has a high horse application...
There's a pretty good shop in town here and while they are a big dog dealer the mechanic is a smart cookie and has helped me with lots of stuff. He rides a triumph chopper, so I imagine that he's familiar with custom applications. once I get the distances spot on, or if you want to send me yours I could take 'em down there and ask him and then shoot the belt size back to you. Are you using the stock pulleys? 61 and 27 I believe...If not let me know.

Corey stock XB pulleys are 30 teeth front and 65 teeth rear. S1/S3/X1 etc pulleys wont fit as they are 5 stud bolt pattern and XB's 6 stud bolt pattern. Measurement from center of front sprocket shaft to center of XB rear axle is 26 inch's. If you have a way to calculate it, I'd appriciate your help.
I could handle going to 31/65 gearing if I had to with belt length. Have been toying with the idea of tig welding up all the bolt holes on my 61 tooth pulley and redrilling 6 bolt holes in XB pattern. Note also the center hole where pulley sits on the wheel has to be enlarged to. Would have to get a machine shop to do this as my lathe is not big enough to hold it(already had a look at doing this tonight)
Once we have all these little dramas sorted it should all just fall into place!
Standard gearing in Australia was 29/55 way over geared!!! this was dane as our noise regs suck!
My bike has 29/61 this gives me 3000rpm's at 100klph or 60mph, I'd be happy if I could retain this or a little lower but hopefully no higher.

It was good fun cutting the battery tray and support out hey! NOT! I used really thin cut off wheels to do mine then a flap disc to finish up as to not cut to much metal off in the grinding process.

Ya that's been great fun! I used the same, but a grinding wheel to get the final off. My compressor even tho new is always running but I couldn't fathom dropping 600 for a bigger one...
If you wanna stick with that size 30/65 I will figure for that and get you the proper belt size or range is needed...Are you gonna use a tensioner? I'm waiting on chain and ebay purchase of tensioner to show up so I can get the proper position...

I didn't know that XB's vs. tubers were different but looking at it there may not be a huge difference in final drive ratio, I'll get it all calculated and see if there are a few options as far as belts go. I monkeyed around with the seating last night, along with visualizing the rest of tail, and this is way cool, so I'm glad to help out as much as possible with your stuff as you've definitely helped me with mine.

max length 1 1/8 inch belt is 136 teeth,
with my calculations I need a 27 tooth front pulley and a 55 tooth rear. this will give me 2.03 ratio a little higher then my 29/61 arrangement at 2.10 but alot better then Aussie stock ratio of 1.89.
and no I won't need an idler pulley with my arrangement belt should be not to loose and not to tight! fingers crossed.I just need to source a 27 and 55 tooth sprockets, should be plenty laying around as not many people kept them for long.

Corey yours should be 27T as that is American domestic market size.
I'd appreciate the sprocket and would have no problems with paying the freight to Australia but I would have to give you something else for it as well...

That's the first Aussie beer I had a long while back-10 yrs. but apparently you can get it at one of those Austrialian steak places, as I've just googled it...still thought it was good, you have a lot of different quality beers over there? American beer market has gotten much better in the past five to six years-either that or my wallet has improved a bit...

How well did the swingarm fit the frame where it attatches to the isolators? Did you have to do any mods?

Sjh Once I made the parts it went straight together like stock set up!
I have a lot of photo's posted in the archive's showing the swingarm bearing spacers I made with my lathe.

Loki I made an engine stand that allowed the correct ride height to be maintained(look in the archives)
Therefore once the swingarm was mounted it gave me roughly the location for the top shock mount, all I had to do was make sure I had enough frame to shock clearance.

Just sitting on the bike at a stand still feels way better than the stock suspension.

Because I want to retain belt drive, and my wheel base is now longer. I have to use 26T front and 55T rear pulleys with a 136T belt. The 55T rear has 5 holes that will be welded up machined and redrilled with 6 holes to suit XB rear wheel plus the centre hole has to be made bigger as well.

Jodie-wanted to ask about oil lines...you getting em locally? I never looked for such things and since I'm sitting around waiting for my swingarm to get back...I didn't see any on your mock ups but figured you wouldn't install until the little lady was painted...
Dave-on using the PM's which should be the same as using the Marchesini's, right now I'm trying to find out if I can get some bearings with the outside dimensions of the wheel hub and the inside dimensions of the XB axle, because as Jodie stated, it's huge and can't be turned down due to it's design...

Yes I have thought of oil lines, In the latest Custom Chrome catalog in chapter 16 page 113 look for "Goodridge Custom Stainless Steel Oil Line and Fittings"
has part no's
610250 12ft roll-6 stainless teflon hose
+ some other fittings which I have'nt purchased as yet, I'm waitng to take my bike to Rollies Speed Shop(Custom Chrome Dealer) and work out exactly which of the fittings I will need. My exhaust bracket will look similar to the XB's in that it will have the oil lines passing through it.
Corey you asked me in one of the earlier post what colour my wheels are, well I bought a new set of Sunset orange wheels from St Paul Harley davidson from there ebay store for less than half what my dealer in Australia could do them for. My frame will also be this colour and the body work will be pearl white as on 2006 Mazda RX8's here in Australia.
Should look cool!

Nice projects guys...very ambitious. I am enjoying following your progress. Regarding your concerns about no cush drive for a chain conversion, have you thought about purchasing an XBRR clutch? It has a cush drive built in. I am not sure about the availability right this minute, but I am sure someone on here (Badweb) is knowledgeable in this aspect. Keep up the good reporting.
