What should the compression be on the 1203 engine?

If I recall correctly, a '97 Cyclone should be showing at least 150 psi during a hot compression test. Much more than 180 psi could be problematic.

Not sure what color the heads are. Will see tomorrow when I'm buying it.

I figured about 150 psi new from the factory, but I've never heard of and engine being higher than stock. Normally lower compression would be a sign of a worn engine, and a variance of more than 10 psi could mean a warped head.

Compression can and will be higher with an excessive buildup of carbon on the head and/or piston dome.

variance could also come from badly sealing rings, valve train issue, a leaky head gasket, and so on -- some expensive, some not . . . . .
