Long story short, My bro wants to buy a X1 with the 101hp @ the crank engine.

We found a 2000 X1 at a HD dealer 13k miles all carbon fiber bodywork! for 4K out the door. They say it has the 101 hp motor but this website claims 2000 X1's only have 95hp?!?!

http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/buell_x1_lightning_2000.php

Whats the deal? Lying dealer? Lying website? How can we tell if it has the 101hp motor? Anyone know the specs for a 2000 X1???

Please Advise.

Barker -- these engines were advertised to make 101 at the crank -- this will vary from dyno to dyno, and from day to day, like any engine -- a 5% varience isn't very large, as the same engine can show a much larger variation from operator to operator

no one is lying, is my guess -- you're just getting benefit of at least two different tests is all

Barker...all the X1 models had a factory claimed 101hp at the crank. That being said...I'd avoid the 1999 model unless it has the upgraded oil pump gear. There seemed to be an abunance of trouble with that particular model year.

Some people are afraid of intimacy. The Buell rider embraces it full throttle. With a low center of gravity and amazing flickability, it's easy to understand why our riders develop a passion for the S-curve. And because Buell® motorcycles feature race-bred suspension and rigid frames, they've got an uncanny ability to know where you want to go - even before you do.

The Lightning® X1 is a standout when it comes to getting closer to the road. With its nimble handling, aggressive riding position and Showa suspension, the X1 rules the corners at high speeds and low angles. And with a 101hp, 1203cc V-Twin engine with Dynamic Digital Fuel Injection, you'll be rolling out of the turns as quickly as you dove into them. Go find yourself a twisty stretch of road and tell it what you really think.

Rocket has issues with his motorcycle -- while his experience is of value (i.e., the more you modify a bike the greater the chances of bad things hapening), most folks love their X1s

to say that there aren't those that have had problems (that they didn't cause) would be a lie -- with 13K miles, though, with the possible exception of the oil pump gear, I'm thinkin it's pretty well sorted out by now

Refresh my memory...is that the limited edition Carbon-Kevlar X1. With the cool pegasus weave in the flyscreen.

At that price....I buy it, get a new oil pump gear and have them change it out. It's still a great deal.

I agree. Buy it and change the gear. You don't need to modify anything other than that. Too many people do one mod, then another, and another... Next thing you know, your bike looks like the circus freak covered in tattoos and piercings.

(I’m not trying to start a flame war, just stating my opinion. I'm a minimalist, which is a big reason why I like the Buells)

Nice try Bomber but the truth is the vast majority of failures, certainly the ones that equated to 4 years down time out of 8, were direct results of poor product and poor performance by a Buell agent. The latter, a prick masquerading as a Buell trained technician.

FU too!

I say buy it, enjoy it, change the gear, and enjoy it some more. If it becomes an issue, do the XB rocker cover mod (you'll know if you need to) and enjoy it more. Then just ride it for fun.

Bomber, do some research. Many many engines hove run without valve seals for years.

Every Triumph Pre-Unit and Unit Twin ever built, and that's just for starters.

Saab straight four engines too, including the turbo models.

NO, its not a Carbon Kevlar bike, those were 1999, and they were badged..

Most likely its just an X1 with all the Carbon body work...

But, even so, @4k, sounds like a winner to me...

And FWIW, I LOVE my Carbon Kevlar X1, and yeah, its a 99....

Nice X1!
It cries out for a Force Winder and carbon inserts from American Sport Bike.
I dig carbon!

I believe that the tank cover is a 99 or 2000 cover not 'sactly sure when they dropped the vents. Wheels are pre '01

Factory carbon has decals on "inside surfaces" stating that its buell carbon
American Sport Bike carbon is also marked, IIRC

the gear, rocker and cam box gaskets, and rivits for the timer cover wont cost too much, don't let the dealer do it, change it your self.

Oh yeah, the gear inspection is covered in the kv and takes a half hour. GET the FSM!

consider the FW as well the air box has issues.

enjoy the X1 I love mine ....
The Rocketteers comments not with standing. like any machine a buell will reward it's owner with service in proportion to the care it recieves ..

The Millenium's were silver. With some special body parts.

That's a 99 Tank cover. It may be from a ltd edition model. I'm pretty sure only 99's had the vents. Good for bungeeing stuff to the tank. Much nicer looking than the purple frame 99 model. Have fun.
