I have an opportunity to acquire a 2000 X1. My previous Buell was a 1999 X1, which I dearly loved, but had... ummm... let's say "issues" that I could do without.

Anybody know what was changed between 1999 and 2000 for the X1? Things like FI, motor mounts, muffler hangars, etc.

I tried searching the KV with no success. Is there a "Buell Model History" available detailing such minutae????

Thanks,

Pete

Based on the S3, which I am familiar with, the 2000 has all the upgrades and provides a better ride, less vibration and a sweeter running motor... but essentially the same as the '99.

http://www.saintjohn.nbcc.nb.ca/Marriott/x1/

Lots of improvements occurred mid-year 1999 (post multi-recall) and even in 2001
-front rotor
-shifter?
-throttle body shaft size
-rear brake line

Still ... the race ECM would be a sound upgrade if running a stock or after market pipe.

Thanks, doods.

That X1 link looks like a regular cornucopia of info. Time to bone up, so to speak....

Pete:

Based on my experience with my 2000 M2, the following are upgrades that did not appear until the 2001 model year:
Beefier primary tensioner
Recall shock
"Y" muffler hanger
Beefier rear isolators
Head temperature sensor (Not sure about the X1. The head temperature sensor was supposed to be a mid 2000 model year M2 improvement).
New style shifter

Didn't the 2000 have the new lighter pressed together crank?
The 01's started with the dimpled cylinder liners if memory serves.

Looking at the part-update and recall-notice dates, I may want to keep looking for the Very Last X1 Ever Built...

Right now, the deal is not such a screamer that I absolutely HAVE to jump on it. I think I (and my wife, who kept having to pick me up when I got stranded) would prefer something in the 2002 range...

Pushrod:

I don't think you have to be so concerned to try and get the latest of the 2002's. I've done the upgrades to my '00 M2 and have been very happy with them. Having said that, when I went looking for an S3T last year, I did decide that it needed to be an '01 or newer so that I could avoid spending the $$ and time on the shifter, isolators, muffler hanger, and primary adjuster. I also would have been unhappy if I had the SRP instead of the recall shock(Dealer did the muffler hanger and recall shock free of charge and I did the isolators with my 10,000 mile service). Of course, you may have already found an '00 X1 with most or all of these upgrades already.
