I did a search of the knowledge vault and found a few ideas, but wanted some fresh opinions... I was out riding today in 100+ heat, and when I got home there was oil dripping onto the tire of my 2001 M2 from the transmission vent hose that runs up the subframe. My engine oil level is normal and appears un-contaminated. I am about to go outside and drain the primary. It's due for a change anyway. Please somebody tell me this is no big deal... |

The primary fluid (Mobil 1) was/is brown in color, but did not smell of gas. It smells like pure gear oil to me, but my sniffer is not perfect. What color is your primary fluid when you drain it??? By the way there was metal on the magnet, but all very fine with no chunks. |

probley just got hot and belched esp since it got thick with clutch material. If its all brown you might ask when the last time its been changed. New sport trans fluid is clear. Dont worry |

I had a similar experience on a M2 one time when I accidentally blocked the crankcase breather vent line (I had re-routed the breathers to vent outside the inlet air box). In that case a too tight cable tie pinched the 3/8" vent hose shut. I think that let the pressure build in the primary/transmission case and forced the oil out. condensation in the primary can also help spew spooge out the vent line -- high temps seem to help (hurt?) . . . . fine particles on the magnet are no source for concern, sir -- that's why it's there . . . just make sure ya don't over fill the primary, and all will be well |

Thanks for the replies guys. Condensation makes a lot of sense actually, I hauled it up to the Moto GP last weekend and it was humid like crazy there. Then on the way home it rained on us pretty hard, the bike was in the back of a truck. I'll finish up my service tonight hopefully and get her back out there! Thanks!!! |

I'll also check my crankcase breather lines, thank you. |

Watch for the tranny level to go up and your engine oil to go down. If it does, you probably need a new crank seal. No big deal to replace but the primary does need to come apart. Brad |

riding in a truck, heavy rain -- dollars to doughnuts it's just moisture in the primary -- several dollars to doughnuts if the spooge is chocolate milkshake looking, and vary runny |
