I'm running into a problem with the rear isolators. I'm getting a small gap between the isolator and the swing arm block. The gap is less than a 1/16. But, it's just not sitting flat against the block. It seems like the spacers that go into the bearing and through the block are sticking out just that much. Also, The ear part that goes into the frame is leaving a small gap, as well. Even though the frame is sitting flush on the isolator.

I've check the bearing to make sure the races are all the way in. Other than that I'm unsure if this gap is correct or if something else is wrong.

SPRING THE FRAME, DID YOU ???

Who changed your isolators last, you or a TECHNICIAN ???

There is a spring pin that acts as a locator for the isolator.

That spring pin may not have gone in the hole in the iso causing the gap.

Here are a few pictures. The pins are in and the isolators are on the correct side. The first picture shows a very small gap and the second picture shows the gap with the frame. The frame is seated nicely against the isolator, but it seems like the ears aren't long enough for the hole. (btw the reason that small part isn't painted was b/c I forgot to tell the Powder coat guy not to tape it off, so he thought it was a place for a bearing. and the grey is the anti seize that was on my fingers. If you were wondering)

I have heard that the spacers that provide isolator preload are large washers. Their outside diameter are just over half the diameter as the isolator.
Could this be the cause of the gap you see?
The isolators are bolted to the swingarm mount. What else could be the cause for the gap? This is a 2000 X1, with the same frame as an S3, not an S2 or RS/RSS right?
I don't even want to consider that the isolators were installed by spreading the frame, and now the frame is ruined!!!

WHEN YOU SPRING/WARP the frame by removing
the REAR ISOLATOR(right or left)wrong the quick fix was to put "PRE-LOAD" washers in both sides(tube frames with out side plates) ...

I agree it's something with the spacers. I did not in any way spread the frame. Since it's an X1 I have the nice side plate)

I really didn't have any problems getting the isolators on. The spacers just seem to be sticking out that much. The frame sits nicely against the isolators. It's just that gap against the swing arm. I'm about to try new bearings, b/c that's the only thing I can think of that would cause the spacers to stick out just that little bit.

As for the other gap. I don't think there is any thing wrong with my work. Either it's meant to be like that or the isolator is just short. I really don't know.

The outside of the isolators have a ring that fits into the frame hole. Check that the isolator is centered in the frame hole.
They are supposed to be under a little pressure when installed. Buell did send instructions that if the isolators were not compressed some, then use the enclosed spacer washers. (An issue on some S3 * M2 frames.)
Check the frame side roll pin length. If is is too long it will push the metal inside the isolator and cause premature seperation.
Measure isolator roll pin protrusion on both
left and right isolator mounts with calipers or metal rule.
Roll pin should not protrude more than 0.120 in. (3 mm). If roll pin protrudes more than 0.120 in. (3 mm) file or grind until within specification; 0.080-0.120 in. (2.032-3.048 mm). Use care when filing to avoid creating sharp edges.
