On my car I shoot a little starter fluid around the intake while its running. If the idle jumps up you have a leak.

What Garrett said.
Another way to tell is ask yourself "Have I ever replaced these?", if the answer is NO, they are leaking.

Get your motor hot and let it idle.

Spray a little WD-40 around the intake seals and if the idle drops then you got a leak.

BTW, I replace all three intake manifold seals every 2 years.

Like Seth said, If they have never been replaced they need to be. I like to use the starting fluid around the seals while its idling. (more dangerous than WD40 but doesn't leave the mess on the bike that WD40 does.) Make sure and test it when the engine is still cold as they will swell and seal better as the engine warms up. Get the Genuine James Blue intake seals. They are far superior to the stock HD seals. You can see them at: http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?catId=2&leafCatId=2070 6&skuId=H26258&ovmkt=8FM037RKKF3ISGHVBLJBCHE8K4

Hope this helps. One more thing, buy the tool from American Sport Bike as it makes it a lot easier to get to the allen bolts, I ended up custom bending and cutting a couple standard allen wrenches that worked good also.

Replace SEAL,intake manifold PN 26995-86B
every two years if you are not just a weekend rider ...

Stops the PHANTOM PROBLEMS from being "TOO LEAN", ie: header will turns cherry RED(XB's already do this as they come from the factory already too lean), spit/sputter, irattic idle

I just took an allen wrench to the bench grinder until I acheived the optimal size. Worked like a charm: D

also most little screw driver bits are 1/4". the changeable single ended ones. use the other end, the one thats usually in the drive and a 1/4" open end box end. works even better if you have a 1/4 ratcheting box end.
