I saw it a few days ago and was seriously considering bidding on it, but I really can't justify another bike. I hope you enjoy it. Looks like you got yourself a screamin' deal. Congrats.

WHY DOES CONVERTING A BUELL TO A SPORT CHOP MAKE ONE A "YAHOO" ? TRY OWNING/SERVICING ONE OF THESE "CLASSICS" IN NORTHERN INDIANA.....DEALERS TREAT YOU LIKE YOU HAVE THE PLAGUE, FACTORY DOESN'T WANT TO HELP YOU ANY MORE. MY CHOP IS POWERED BY A PIECE OF HISTORY IN ITSELF. BACK IN 03 I GOT WITH THE GUYS AT HAL'S IN NEW BERLIN, WISC.AND WE SPLICED AN XB TOP END ON MY 97 LOWER END. THE PROTOTYPE/PREDECESSOR (1 OF 3 BUILT AT THE TIME) OF THE NEW XB12RR THAT'S TAKING THE COUNTRY BY STORM. MANGLED MY KNEES AND HAD TO DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH THIS ENGINE. MY MUTANT LOOKS AND RUNS LIKE A BAT OUTTA HELL.....BUILT THE BITCH MYSELF AND GAINED A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE ON THE JOURNEY. THE GUYS AT REDNECK ARE A GREAT BUNCH THAT BUILD BULLETPROOF PRODUCTS...JUDGE NOT MY FRIEND...PEACE, DRAKE

TwoDogs, I like Yahoos. I might even be a Yahoo myself. Don't be so sensitive. All I'm saying is that there were a limited number of older tubers built and I'd hate to see them become extinct. I like choppers and Buells. The difference in a nutshell, is that I like choppers as art, and Buells as science, and most times you don't need to destroy science to have good art.

Not even close to an XBRR. You've got a good looking bike-- but it don't compare to the RR.

ummm..Ryker, I think he was referring to the engine.

2Dogs...what I think most people are talking about (my take on it anyhow) is that perfectly good Buells, fairly RARE Buells are being chopped and destroyed because of the chopper fad. They are sad to see a piece of technological history get destroyed for a bike that merely looks good (and maybe goes fast...in a straight line).

Personally, I think that if you own a bike...and decide that you want to do something different with it, that is your business. But why BUY a perfectly good Buell just to destroy it? When there are many out there that have good running gear and bent frames, or salvage titles, or something.

Enjoy what you ride, and ride what you enjoy.

Agreed!... bastardizing Buells to make cheapy choppers is ridiculous and a reflection of the chopper builders lack of taste. Besides, if you have to part out the remains of the donor bike aftterward you couldn't afford that cheapy chopper anyway.

Ryker is correct in his assertion that an XB top end on a tuber lower comes nowhere near becoming an XBRR motor.I have XB heads on my S-2 and it sure is not an XBRR motor now.
And the guys that chop an S-2 for the engine because it's a "Buell" and they were looking for more HP are in reality getting nothing more than a Sportster motor as that was all it was.The later bikes kept upping the HP #'s until the Thunderstorm motors were the norm. Seems a waste when there were only around 1500 S-2's made and how many old Sportsters are out there??
And then to come here to a Buell enthusiast board and ask for understanding and acceptance---right!!!

southern marine, thank you. Lunchbox, no harm done....buellgrll( or whatever )my engine is worth more than your M-2...the bike we're parting out is for the wife of my DEAD riding buddy who died in a truck accident making a living. His dream was to build his own...NOW we're mutating his worthless S-3 ($3500 book?) into a decent looking sport chop that is already to be auctioned off for his kids college fund. Lost two more close friends and their daughter this morning in a traffic accident. Please be careful out there, and take it easy on each other. I never meant to compare my engine to the new RR only that it was a PREDECESSOR...not only heads, lighter crank, bigger rods, XB pistons, cyls, heads.....lotsa cnc work...not a "splice". After my titanium knees prevented me from riding my beloved S-3 on the street or track (where I would have handed buellgrrl her ass BTW), I was left with the choice of selling it for nothing, trading it for nothing and being treated like garbage at the Harley shop, OR reincarnate it into something I can still enjoy.....Any more questions, call yer mom.PEACE>>>>>dog"come here for acceptance?" just making a point....I'll fade away now.....yes it is DAMN FAST..(I think some of you buellers have been spending too much time with Harley riders)

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to everyone! I'm having issues trying to post from my home computer.

I go to pick it up on Wednesday. I'll try to let everyone know how it worked out Friday.

I am still shocked that I had the winning bid. I kept watching on here to see if anyone was talking about it. I figured that someone from here would throw a last minute bid in!

I agree with everyone's sentiments about these old bikes. Do what you will with YOUR bike, but as stated above you hate to see these old classics stripped down.

Now I'll have to spend more of my lunch breaks looking through here trying to learn the ins and outs of tubers, and less time on the XB board.

Twodogs,
sorry to hear about the loss of your friends.
there are some ligit reasons for useing a tuber for a mutant..i agree...and some are true works of road worthy art.
but, you got to see the other side also..they are getting fewer..they are history, they are true road machines...to rape one and bolt a mutant together because someone just watch OCC and thinks he's "A CHOPPER BUILDER" is a waste of a great machine.

in my opinion(not that its worth much)i would rather see someone chop a buell and still ride its remains because his/her body cant handle riding the buell any longer.i mean if i was to sell my s3 i might get $4000-$4500 for it tops and it is worth double that to me(actually i would burn it in my front yard before selling it for 4k)so i guess if my back or knees or hips or shoulders or whatever went bad and i couldnt ride it anymore i would definately chop it before i would let it sit in the garage and collect dust or sell it for less than its worth to me.if you sold your buell today for $5000.00 how many bikes are available today for that price, that you could replace it with for the same money and will bring that buellish smile to your face?ok now i am just rambling on so c-ya

If your body can't handle riding a suspended BUELL, how the heck can it handle riding a rigid framed Mutant?
Just curious...

hey bartimus have you ever rode a chop?he said he had to build a mutant because he mangled his knees not his ass or back.a chop does offer a more relaxed riding position for your knees, back and shoulders(if built right). And since I ended up getting off the subject on my first post I FORGOT TO SAY CONGRATS Buffalobolt.Hope you enjoy it.And to Twodogs I say congrats to you for turning your buell into something you and your bad knees can still ride instead of throwing in the towel and not riding anymore.

Well, I got back around 2AM Thursday morning from picking the bike up on Long Island. 21 hours round trip (NYC rush hour traffic sucks!). I was pretty worthless at work yesterday between being tired and only wanting to get out of here to put the plates on and ride!

Very good experience though. The guy that sold the bike was relieved that I had no plans to chop it. The second highest bidders online name was "chopper guy".

The owner was an ex-BadWebber. I forgot to ask him what name he went by though. The bikes description was pretty accurate. Mostly it needs a good detailing. I knocked a couple of layers off of it last night.

It is already VERY apparent that this will probably be my new distance ride. Quite comfortable. BUT, so very much different feel to it than the XB. You can definately feel the progression from the earlier bikes to the XB's from running back to back. Not good or bad, just very "different".

I was also a little suprised to find out that it was the 20th built.

Thats all for now, I'm sure I'll be talking to y'all later. I may even need to ride this to homecoming this year instead of the XB!
