My 02 X1 has 170/60 17 in back and 120/70 in front. Can I go WIDER? It seems there is plenty of swingarm clearance, but not much fork clearance. These sizes are getting hard to find in EBAY.. Spyder |

120/70 is still a popular size, I find no trouble in getting that size for my fronts. I have been having trouble getting the 170/60 rear tire though, and have been putting 180/55 on all my tubers. I haven't noticed any difference in the handling whatsoever. |

I wouldn't want to be diving for an apex and start wondering about the information on this link. http://www.sportrider.com/tech/tires/146_0206_size/ Follow the manufacturers recommendation for the proper tire size for the width rim you have. Believe me, their engineers know more than you and they really do have your best interest in mind. A 5.5" wide wheel like Bartimus has is the recommeded width for a 180 tire from most manufacturers. Standard tuber wheels were 5" wide. Choose accordingly. |

WEll, I use the 180 on teh rear of my X1..even tried a 190 at one point. There isnt any room for anything bigger than a 190...BUT, I didnt like the way it felt.. So, back to a 180... Chase |

I run a 180 on the rear of my 00 X-1 with the PM wheels. I know that Buell recommends a max of 170 on the stock wheels and a 180 for the PM's. There are numerous people that run a 180 on the stock wheel with no problems. Also from my experience in tire shopping, the 180 is more accessible than the 170 at the local sport bike shops around here, that is unless I want to wait and have them order my tires. |

On my X1 the stone guard behind the lower belt guard misses the tire by about 1/8" inch. This seems to be the area on my bike with the least rear tire clearance and it's not obvious. Check it out before you get a tire that's too big! |
