HAS ANY ONE SUCCESFULLY INSTALLED XB OR 2004 LATER XL1200 HEADS ON A TUBE FRAMED BUELL? AND IF SO HOW DID IT TURN OUT? WAS THERE MORE POWER AND/OR TORQUE? DO I HAVE TO CHANGE PUSH RODS AS WELL DUE TO THE FACT THE PT #'S HAVE CHANGED? HOW ABOUT THE MOUNTING OF THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT TO THE HEADS WAS THEIR ANY DIFFICULTY IN THAT AREA? IF ANY ONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS, TIPS OR COMMENTS FOR ME PLEASE RESPOND THANK YOU.

Lots of people have done it. Find a good head shop (and I don't mean on Venice Beach) and then a set of motor mounts and you're all set. Your head shop will tell you what other parts you'll need for your install.

NRHS makes a really high quality billet mount for the conversion also. It's available from Al at American Sport Bike. I use their standard billet mount on my tuber.

THE XB HEADS COMPARED TO A STAGE 2 THUNDERSTORM HEAD KIT? BETTER OR WORSE? IS IT WORTH SPENDING ALL THE EXTRA DOUGH TO GET STAGE 2 T-STORM HEADS OR WOULD I BE BETER OFF GETTING THE XB HEADS AND A GOOD CAM SET?

You'd be best off finding the CAPS-LOCK key.

How much power do you want and how much $$ can you spend? The XB heads are a better platform to start from, but heavily modified T-Storms vs XB isn't a fair comparison since the TStorms+Stg2 ought to cost more.

That is unless you get your stock heads reworked and not buy new heads.

Now if you are going to get new heads, might as well get the XB's and a new motor mount and have those heads reworked!! NHRS or Zippers both do great jobs, but I believe the NHRS turn around time is much quicker.

MY current set-up is as follows

stock XB heads
stock XB cyls
stock S1 pistons (yes, martha those flat tops work)
stock push rods from the 97
race header with early supertrapp can
jetted and needled CV40
race ham can with the 3" filter
race ignition module

In my 97 S1, on the dyno it popped a respectable 85 rwhp. It also pulls like a banshee till it cuts a cyl out. Mind you that I am slightly down on the compression with the true flat tops.

If planting the XB heads onto a T-storm eng. The heads will require maching for the piston dome.

My next step is an overbore and fitting of T-Storm pistons.

power cost money.. so how fat is your wallet

IMO your best bet is to sell the m2.. and look for a bike that has allready been setup. like this bike http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/174048.html?1139322423

I'm running xb stage 3 heads, NRHS front motor mount, CP domed pistons 12.5:1, NRHS adjustable push rods, zippers push rod covers, Andrews N80, hsr42, twintec ignition... Need a new dyno run but looks like 115-120 rwhp and 8x ft'lbs of torque

I happened to walk by after he posted here and gave him my take on it.

Dyno from a 99 S3 w/ Stg 1 NHRS heads, race exhaust, race ECM and K&N filter (all else stock)
S3
Cheapest would be a TStorm head esp if you ask what the different head shops charge for a "core"
"best" would be XB heads.

now if i choose to use the 2004 later XL1200 heads instead they should work as well right? the valves and dimensions are the same except they breath through the breather holes on the heads. and that is what i want. i want to retain my stock rocker covers and a/c setup. I didnt think the heads would need maching in the combustion chamber but what loki posted raised my concern. and what other motor mount is it that you spoke of? thanks for all your help so far everyone

Ben,

I believe the only diff between the 04 Sporty and Buell head is the breather set-up.

I do believe the sporty uses a true flat top(to drop the comp ratio)while the XB12 has a slight dome to it. The T-storm has an even more prominent dome.

With the T-storm pistons the heads(XB) will require a squish band cut into to match the piston. A more moderate approach is to drop in a set of XB12 pistons.

Al at American Sport Bike has that special front mount to adapt the XB head to the Tuber frame.

With the list of mods already done. It would be worth the extra to have the heads cut for the T-storm piston. I say this only because of the discussions between a now departed poster and myself.

As a side note. The extra fin area of the late heads is a big bonus.

ok so what i'm trying to do exactly is this i want to buy new black t-storm cylinders w/pistons, black 2004 XL1200 heads (I'm under the impression they are the same as xb heads)and retain my rocker boxes i currently have. i also plan to change my 497 s/e cams to the 536 cams. i'm just hoping to be able to do this without too much trouble or running into any unforseen issues.what i'm trying to acheive is a lil bit more performance and a nice look too.

Does anyone know the potential of the new Pro Sportster heads #16677-05. They yield 10.5:1 with stock XL1200 pistons. With piston kit #22711-04 and cam kit #25740-05 the compression ratio increases to 11.3:1 with a 7'000 rpm limit. Except for the descriptions accompanying the individual parts; there are no other references to this power combination or any recommendations for intake or exhaust systems. The list prices in the 2006 Screamin'Eagle Pro Racing Parts are $799.95 for the heads,$279.95 for the pistons, and
$274.95 for the cams.
