Does anyone know where I could get a seat cowl for an X1 to make it a single seater, or someone who makes them or an easy way to make one, One suggestion I had was to get an extra seat and form fiberglass on the passenger seat and then bondo, sand and paint.... has anyone done this? I think it would look bada$$ painted to match the tail section. Thanks |

Check with Rich Cronwrath from Kosco Racing Buell. I almost bought one of his old tube frame racers last year. It was based on the X1. It had the cowl section on the rear. |

I actually made 1 for my X-1 out of fiberglass. It is made so that it fits over the stock seat. Check out this link about it: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/65028.html?1090239703 |

Making a seat cowling is not that difficult. find an old gas tank with the radius that you want. cut the biottom out and the back half to fit the seat frame you want. Many an english cafe race do it your selfer has done this. A yamaha 650 website has instructions on how to do it |

Sure, http://www.650motorcycles.com/OBrien.html Some pretty cool 650 yahamha stuff here. doesn't go into much detail about actual fabrication, but it looks pretty easy (Message edited by Tom_b on December 31, 2005) |

I just picked up a seat cowl for $19.99 on ebay. Small scratch- I do not know who makes it. |

It fits like a euro-components--- it slips over the seat and bulges out a bit on a stock seat. I have another x1 seat pan and I'll probably cut this to fit and glass it on. |

Nice, I saw that you were looking for quite awhile too for a cowl. I hope it works out and please send pics if you can when it is done. |

Suppose you could restitch the seat with color matching vinyl like a ulysses? It would LOOK like a cowl. |

Very nice looking bike!!!! My bike is black and I'm going with a black tail section... I emailed the guy who is selling them on ebay and he said that he is looking at doing high impact plastic for around 100... he said the only other place he saw them the price was 200 so he figured 150 was about right... I told him i thought it was a little steep hoping to get an offer on a cheaper price I could probably justify around 100 for one if the work was descent. Wardon is that yours??? |

I don't know anything about my cover except that it was sold by jlaxcorp out of Boca Raton, Fl. He has other things listed on ebay- most are displayed on that same red backround in the above pic. (Another tuber to the choppers, perhaps?) It appears to be plasitc, smooth on the outside, wrinkley on the interior with mounting tabs epoxyed on and fits very much like the euro-components cowls appear to (I've never seen one in person)- a little to the outside of the seat which to me is, visually, a little undesireable. I, like many of you, only ride solo and have been looking for a cowl for some time. Since July of 2002 when I bought it. I chopped a Honda Hawk cover and was not pleased with the results. So when this came up with a buy-it-now price of $19.99 I wondered if it might not have been a euro-components item, I rolled the dice. It seems okay, and if nothing else it will be a starting place for me. They shipped fast and packaged it well. |

I may dremmel the edge next to the seat vinyl in order to draw the sides in and clean it up a bit.

That cowls looks like a copy of the EuroComponents seat with the squared off top. The guy on e-bay however I need to have a talk with to see where he came up with his setup as it looks too similar to a prototype seat cowl that I sent out to a manufacturer to possibly go into production with. That manufacturer said cost would be to great as the X-1 were not that high in demand. Can you say copyright infringement? I hope that a certain manufacturer didn't use mine as a mold and then re-sell to a different person with out my permission.... |

Blue, I hope this is not the case... However do you think his price is reasonable??? I was looking maybe at the plastic versions vs. the fiberglass (save 50.00) What do you think?? |

That's around what we were looking to get for them, I would have gone into major production, but the setup cost were too high, so the search went out for a different location to mass produce my design. I prefer the glass as it will be much easier to fix minor problems than the plastic, just my preference. |
