First let me thank all who responded to my front wheel brake lock up thread. After 9 weeks I still have a cast on my arm, otherwise the roadrash and bruses have healed. I have all of the parts in my garage waiting for my cast to come off so I can install them.

However in the accident I messed up my seat which was a Corbin Gunfigter and His Lady. I was never too impressed with the seat to begin with and am looking for options. The Buell pro series seat is no longer available, but I found two at Sport Twin but they have either red or yellow trim and my bike is Amazon Green. I could get one of those and die the trim black. But before I do I would like some feedback.

First are the pro series seats worth the trouble, second are the any other seats that are better than both the Buell and Corbin? I could always install the original back, easy enough, but my arse sure hurts after long rides on it. At least the Corbin gave me some extended comfort for the long rides.

Thanks
Brion

Not sure what year S3 you have (the 99 and up stock seat is a lot better than the 97), but the most comfortable seat I have tried for an S3 is a 99 up style Corbin (much better than Corbin's older model version)with extra padding (you can special order it this way from Corbin). The extra padding makes a big difference.

It depends on what you do with your bike. I bought my bike with 3 seats. Stock, touring, and Corbin. I travel all over the country on my bike and chose to use the stock seat. It allows me to slide side to side in the twisties. the touring seat is nicer for the passenger, but I found the additional padding to be an incumbrance when strapping my gear over the back since I was travelling solo. now that I've fabricated a rack, I'll probably switch to the touring seat. That Corbin sure had nice lines to it, not to mention the nice backrest setup. But that whole thing about sitting back further and lower, getting rid of leg room, and sitting in a bucket, just didn't do it for me. It must work for a lot of people though, since it took me no time to sell it. An other route is getting a gel, air, or bead cover for your seat, for the long hauls.
Just a thought.

It is a 2000 S3T. It is my all around favorite bike. I have taken long trips and short sport driving trips on it. In fact I had an XB9R which I sold recently because I did not like it as much as my S3. I have a Harley Deuce which I ride often on the weekend with my girlfriend up, but for long road trips and a little excitement I choose the Buell.

I did not care for the bucket too much in the Corbin. In fact the rise in the back of the bucket is about 4" back from my butt and because of the seat padding not giving much and the smooth leather when I nail it I slide back that 4" and do not like that at all. Tombo does the extra padded seat have the same bucket configuration? I looked on their site and did not see anything different than what I already had.

Luftkopf, when you refer to the touring seat what are you refering to?

Hi all,
have a M2 98, and a sore backside. I am contemplating either a Corbin or a AirHawk, any favorites ?

You could have your stock seat re-worked. Sargent (in Jacksonville, FL) does good custom work for a reasonable price. There are several guys that do seat customizations based on photos you send in or if you're nearby, you can set up an appointment and ride in for a custom fitting. Here are some seat links I've collected:

Sargent: http://www.sargentcycle.com/

Rick Mayer: http://www.homestead.com/prosites-rmcycle/index.html

Mike the Seat Guy:

Russel Day-Long Seats:

Rich's Custom Seats:

Bill Mayer Saddles:

I have no affiliation with any of these guys, but I have had a seat re-worked by Sargent and was very happy with the results.

Brian, I have the standard Corbin on my own S3, but my Brother's S3 has the newer style with an extra inch of padding special ordered and it does not have that same bucket effect. It is higher but very comfortable. I like the look of my older Corbin, but for long distance comfort there is no comparison. If you are buying new the extra padding does not have much impact on the price.

Brion, how mangled is your corbin? do you have the backrest? I always look through the scratch and dent pile wherever I go.

Slim Jim,

I don't have a backrest. The side of the seat is worn down (not through)in a couple of spots from the bike sliding. I could get it fixed but before I do I am trying to find out other options.

My bike looks bad anyways so a scuffed seat is not a problem for me. The stock seat puts my crotch to sleep, which is annoying to say the least.

PM me if you want to unload it.

I think the corbin is the best option - unless you have one of the custom shops above rework one. However in your situation (already having a Corbin that's scuffed) having them rework and recover the seat you already have may be the best bet.

Glad you're healing well from the incident, i bought a '99 style seat and it was sorely lacking in comfort after 2 hours riding. had it re-done by a local guy (Bitchin Stitchin) who does pro pad installation - also moved the "hump" between rider & passenger back 2 in. now have an "all day" seat. the problem i have with corbins is the riding position is too far forward, and they're sorta wide -this is the case on my Norton Commando and Honda Transalp - they both have Corbins. I'm 5'11"
oh yea, my buell is a '97 S3. hope you find a good seat - the previous post about sargent, etc. was a good one if you don't have local talent for seat mods

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Yesterday I ordered the buell pro seat from Sport Twin, there are only two different colors of piping left in captivity since they are discontinued; yellow and red. Unfortunately my bike is Amazon Green. I bought the yellow one and will use some vinyl paint to change it to black unless I find some green that will closely match my bike. I have used this stuff before to change the color of some auto seats and it did not crack or wear off. I hope I have as good results with this. The seats are $175.00 which is probably less than I could get the other reupolstered for. Jack, I am 5'10" and the hump on my corbin could be moved forward at least 3". I must have short legs.

Jack fe where are you located? I'm in Georgetown, and know Bob Bitchin, just curious.

Brion lets hear how you like the pro seat, that is a seat I have been wondering about, I would also have the same problem I have an Amazon Green S3 as well.

Here is about as wide a selection as you will find on the vinyl refinishing colors.

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/yourautotrim-store/semdye.html

For $1.00 you can buy a color chart
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/yourautotrim-store/semdyechart.html

By the way, I have bought headliner kits off them before. Was happy with the product / service.

Brion, hope the seat works well for you , maybe our "comfort zones" for seats are somewhat different, it's a very "subjective" subject when it comes to riding position.
Jack, (btw: location S. Austin, Travis Tractor)
