oh yeah! Finally sprung for a full face helmet. HJC, black. For the first time in 30 years of riding, I CAN SEE! The helmet keeps the wind out of my eyes, is quiet and light...I also bought some gloves... The 30 mile ride back from a not so local dealer was a lot more enjoyable than the ride out. I can't believe the difference, in sound, wind noise, warmth and confidence from this helmet when compared to what I am used to with my usual "shorty" helmet!!! I almost sprung for a TEKNIC CHICANE jacket too. Anyone know something about these jackets? | ||

Yes! I remember what it was like in my first REAL street helmet. I to that point, I had a dirtbike helmet and a salad bowl. | ||

"..Finally sprung for a full face helmet..." I think they got the name wrong on those. That would be a no face helmet, right? I still use the helmet where people can see my full face. I tried some no face helmets on at my local HoKaSuYa dealer a while back (they had sent me a $25 gift certificate). I just could not deal with all the crap I had to go through to get my head in one (I wear glasses). And then I had this terrible feeling of restricted vision and claustrophobia. And the color schemes, no way I'm going to be seen in anything like the ones they had. Nothing that fit me in like plain black. I love the Classic open face helmets, when I mouth an obscenity, they get it! Jack | ||

XXL in plain black...hard to get on and off, but I was riding in the cold and said "enough is enough"...it has a flip up visor to get my spectacles on. I know I look like Wayne Newton... On my ride to the HOKASUYA dealer [I knew where I was headed, just didn't want to admit it...the HD dealer has nothing like this in his shop], I passed a Bimmer guy in full "thinking man's regalia"...he seemed to look at me and sniff; "what are ya waiting for?" I fought the "look good" fight long and hard, but function finally won out over form...sorta like taking the fenders off to look cool or leavin' 'em on 'cause you know better...anyway, I'm warm and can see!!! | ||

If I was riding now I'd probably have one too. But mine's in the basement for the winter. I can handle a little cold but not the snow and ice and gravel from road sanding and the like. Mainers go nuts once winter sets in, its like all the parking rules and half of the driving rules no longer apply. What really bugs me is the increased chances of facial injuries with an open face helmet. But I do love the open feel of a open face. Jack | ||

I found that I can't ride my Buell without my "no face" helmet on. I tried it with my less than legal "polo player" looking thing and it about choked me to death trying to blow off. I wore my half helmet (DOT, with the ear 'curtains' that zip on or off) when I went to the Love Ride last month, and the wind noise was REALLY bad! At 75 - 80 it was unbearable, and I had forgotten my earplugs! (dummy!) I have a Shoei RF800, that without it, I wouldn't be able to ride the Buell. The air hits you totally different on the RS than on my FLHR. If you are riding your Buell like you're 'spose to, you ought to be in a full coverage lid. That's my opinion, anyway. Probably should wear one in the shower, too, but that's a different set of stats. AL | ||

I like my 3/4 helment that has a full flip down face shield. Looks like a "full face" but is open around the chin. I used to ride with one of those illegal thin helmet. Even wrecked with on one. Didn't even hurt the helemt.. Going to the 3/4 helmet with face shield I feel safer, though I know its not that much better. For those half helments. GOGGLES. work wonders. I rode a s1w from the top of Ohio to Atlanta in one day. Half helmet, goggles and ear plugs. Perfect on hot days. | ||

I was gonna try goggles, but with eyeglasses, I have to get the BIG ONES @ about the same price as the new helmet...and I'd still be cold. One development yesterday was fogging the shield...gotta figure out the vents. Also, really don't hear the noise, wind etc., which is good and bad [can't quite discern the engine noises] | ||

I spent most of my motorcycling life wearing a Bell Magnum with a variety of shields and goggles. And just loved it. My last Magnum went away when Bell would quit rebuilding them. The foam rubber and lining was simply gone with age. I finally threw it away when I moved. But I felt like I should take it someplace special and given it a decent burial... I have an open face HJC and like that with a shield. With the bugs in Maine, I would not ride without a shield. Some of them sound like a .22 going off when they hit the shield, and I can feel some of the body strikes through my Aerostich jacket. The last few years I rode with earplugs in most of the time. I swear I can hear the subtle bad news/good news noises better with ear plugs in than with them out. Try closing your hearing canals by pushing both of those little "flaps" in front of your hearing canals in with your fingers and listening to your engine at a fast idle. You'll be amazed at how much better you can hear some things like the lifters and rockers. I just got my first two hearing aids, they are pretty high tech and I am amazed at the improvement in my life. Did you know that birds makes noises with their mouths? And red squirrels, talk about a bunch of loud mouths... Now I can press the mute buttons on my hearing aids before I put my helmet on and I'm thinking I won't be using ear plugs much. Loud can be good, loud can be fun, but the long term price sucks. My audiologist tells me that if you use ear bud type headphones to listen to an iPOD with the volume set at mid range, and want to avoid that causing eventual long term hearing loss, the recommended maximum use is 15 minutes a day. For the external, "ear muff" style, headphones it is one hour a day. That makes a pretty grim forecast for a lot of the youngsters today. Jack | ||

Have been riding my M2 now for 4 months with out any helmet. Wife has been bugging me to get one. Here in Fla. there is no helmet law. When I had my 1200 about 6 years ago we had a helmet law I wore a skid lid. Thinking about a full helmet how much $ for a good one? | ||

Got the HJC for $119, not sure what exact model but it is a CS...bought the TEKNIC jacket today, too...pretty soon I'll have an intercom system!!! | ||

I wear glasses also. What I have found to be the best is the convertable or "flip front" helmets. I can flip up the chin bar and put the helmet on without removing my glasses. It's great! | ||

Last time I was in G-Ville Buell/ H-D they had an awesome H-D american flag helmet. If didn't already have a decent helmet, I would snatch it up!! | ||

flip fronts ( aka, Modular) helmets are aces! I got a full face for track days and the like, but for day to day use, I'll always have a flip front -- great for specs wearers, smokers, and talking to folks at gas tops and the like | ||

I have the HD american flag helmet. It is pretty good. I went from a fulmer flip face to this. The only problem I have is with the fogging. Probably just need to figure out the venting. | ||

Well...tooka little spin in "full regalia" temp in the mid 40's HJC hat, Teknic Chicane jacket [impervious to wind] sweat pants [not a good choice] It's whole new riding experience!!! that 65 to 75 mph "sweet spot" is the best! (Message edited by silas_clone on December 21, 2005) | ||

I have the HJC helmet in "Amazon" has the little nekkid woman silouhette on the back, and the Teknic Chicane jacket...love 'em! Only one problem...I got the summer jacket. The front is perforated, to leat air in. Anyone know if you can get a liner for it? I have looked around on their site(and others) to no avail. | ||

Well, just did a little 100 mile jaunt, only thing cold is my fingertips...came the last 30 miles on Interstate 85 going about 80 the whole way...the bike seems to like that speed, sooo smoooth! Why did it take me so long to get a decent helmet and a jacket...30 years of squinting and freezing, jus' so I could look like "Bronson"???? | ||

I got a Shoei Syncrotec modular, it's light, quiet and you can't beat the flip front for all those things that being able to move the front out of the way instead of having to pull it off and on! | ||

If you know your helmet size and maker ( try some on at the dealer) you can really save money on eBay. I bought a new HJC CL12 full face for $27 shipped. It had horrible graphics but a quick coat of flat black and it's perfect. | ||

The Ebay experience takes a little patience, huh? I get email explaining that I've been "outbid", so I bid again and everytime I bid, it immediately tells me that I've been outbid...quite frustrating. I have a ton of Ironhead parts that I know is worth millions, but I can't bring myself to try and sell something. | ||
