I'm looking for a replacement shock for my 99 X1 as it appears to have vomited its fluids onto the parking lot yesterday. Was trying to find the correct part # for the replacement. I think it's the earlier 'long' version as I'm measuring a tad over 16.5" eye to eye length. The parts book I have lists the part # as 54621-99Y, but that seems to be in the 'old' Buell part #'s. So can anyone tell me the correct new part #, and also if anyone knows where I can find a replacement on the cheap? Now I know a lot of you will say "That Showa is junk, go buy a Penske" but right now it's close to Christmas and almost everything I have has decided to break at the same time. So buying a $600 - $1000 replacement is out of the question. If those are the only options I have then it will just have to sit in the garage for the time being. |

X1tx, Try K0431.9 It is the Showa late style shock with the beefy shock eye. |

That's the old 'long' shock? Or the recall 'short' shock? Not sure mine's been recalled as it appears to have the long shock (~16.5" eye-to-eye sitting on the side stand). |

X1tx, This shock appears to be 15" eye-to-eye. It is a new shock I got on ebay. It was missing the mount kit so I will need to make a front mount kit for it, unless I luck out and the eye-to-eye length is very very close to my existing early recall shock. From the knowledge vault: S1/S1W/M2/X1: K1400.C S2/S2T/1999-2000 S3/S3T: K1400.8 1997-1998 S3/S3T: K1400.E If you find a dealer who has these, they might also have the necessary mounting kits if it is not included with the shock. I believe somebody said the shocks were rebuildable. Check the knowledge vault. |

They are rebuildable. But I'm not sure the shock on my bike was subject to the recalls in the Service Bulletins, or even if the recall is still available. But a rebuild is going to start at $150. I may be able to buy a new one for less. |

Where did you get that price from? I need a rebuild. |

Just checked with a few Race Tech places. Many will just do a re-seal without a full blown revalve. |

Mine never puked its oil out but is bobbin' pretty bad now. I have enough miles on mine so I think there might be some stuff actually worn out in there. |

I think I finally got a cheapo replacement shock for myself. I was lurking on ebay for a shock all this time and finally an auction ended without a bid. The seller is one of those chopper retards and has an entire M2 frame up for grabs too. |
