Hey everyone it's been a while.

I am looking for the filler pieces that take up the space of the gas tank cover when you remove the airbox and left side fairing on my x-1. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find these parts?
thanks, Val

American sportbike sells those.
Too rich for my blood though.

Holy sh*t Nate, I found them on American Sportbikes page, what a rip-off. I think I might just stay with the stock covers.

Guys! American Sport Bike sells quality parts and you get what you pay for. They are beautiful.
I too could not afford them, so for about $50.00 I got a set if INFERIOR filler pieces on ebay. I admit there are some fitment issues for these but I make them work.

For free, I have an ugly exposed black tank showing under my orange cover.
When I'm riding it, I can't see it.

Listen, for that amount of money, I can make my own. 200? dollars for 2 pieces of fiberglass....it's insane! I don't care how well they fit.
I do like Nate's idea.
Wardan, who makes the inferior pieces you have?

check out this hillbilly X1:
http://www.hillbilly-motors.com/html/x1_snakebite.html
I can't figure out what they did.
Perhaps they moulded the stock cover or even a complete new part?
I wonder if an S3T tank would fit?
Those were fuel injected and they are just the tank; not the silly black tank+cover like ours.

Ok Val the "cheap stuff" is as indicated on Ebay
it is poorly finished and shaped, you can make it fit.

I had trouble getting the stuff that I paid for.
IF you trade on Ebay, pay with pay pal, the co has recently changed hands again, you could pay over 100$ for the parts and not recieve them. Be prepaired to wait weeks and weeks. service fer-get it
they are poorly finished and will not weather well, they scratch easy, I would save for Al's stuff, Mine will have to be painted soon they are ratty.

your money, your time, if you can make good ones and do it cheap maybe you can sell them

Right hand side, from side ( you eye level at bottom of tank )

The S3 tank will fit an X1 with slight mods to the rear mounting but as you can see from the picture the front of the seat needs modifying to fit the shape of the tank.

Kev can you post pics of the slight mods to the rear mounting?

I love the tube frame buell and like to show it off. The x1 tanks hides the frame.

I Haven't actually done mine yet but you can see from this picture how the tank fits ,I think you would be able to use the X1 mount by grinding it to clear the tank this way you would keep the front seat catch which is part of the bracket.

Her are some more pics from various angles to give you some idea of how the tank looks.

Kevin,
Whats the capacity of the s3 tank, 5 gallons? Seems like a nice easy way to get some gas capacity, assuming the mount can be worked out.

Did you get a chance to ride it with the S3 tank?

It definately holds more fuel than the X1 tank but can't find my handbook at the moment to confirm the sizes,I've never used the S3 tank yet I only put it on to trial fit it. The tank won't be a problem to fit, the mod needed to the bracket is only minor and it may just need a small piece of rubber under the tank. If you look at your X1 bracket you will see how it fits.

If you can get a decent seat / tank fit it looks kinda cool how well does it fit the frame?

It fits the frame fairly well it would just need a small piece of rubber right at the rear ,the main difference is that the frame rails show on an X1 as can be seen in the photo ,my plan would be to cover this area with the mod to the front of the seat.

Can't remeber but I think even the S1's had that part of the frame exposed.

The stuff at American Sport Bike is A quality. It's not a "rip-off". The carbon fiber is top notch quality and so are the shapes.

snap... is that an mantaray style x1 tank cover!? cost?

But I bet it cost more than a real tank and then it would need painting.

On the other hand I would be able to swap colors with the x1 and have different tanks/colors every couple of weeks!

$374.75 (US Dollars)is expensive... but many people shell out more for cosmetic improvements.

The frame rails being visable from the sides isn't the problem ,it's the fact the tank is slimmer at the rear so that the rails are visable from above.

its an FI bike tank.. But I'd rather have a carb tank since then I'd be able to use a petcock.

BTW that tank is going on my nuclear blue frame XSB1 !!!!

There are a few small s1 tanks on ebay still. But I like the mantaray and the larger 5 gallons. Since I'll be running high octane fuel with octane boost
