just cut off my old air filter mount (engine mount/heimholtz bracket). it amazes me that anyone could have ever had this part fail! it took 30+ cut off disks and my dremel to cut this piece off and easily an hour of labor. i have little pieces of cut off disk all over my garage. i originally tried a 4" grinder that crapped the bed not even a 1/2 inch into it! the left side caliper mounts are proving to be no easy task as well, cut one of took me 1/2 hour and 10 disks or so, i'll proby do the other tonite. heavy duty stuff! will hopefully have my fork lowers painted black by the weekend! i pray that i have enough time to do the swingarm this winter, the semi-gloss black looks killer and i don't have to clean the pig either! | ||

lol, hehe, a hack saw would've been easier for the filter bracket, i know. i needed practice for the caliper mounts is my excuse and i'm sticking to it! | ||

I'd be interested in how you cut those caliper mounts off. I've been thinking about doing the same thing. | ||

i used a dremel with the standard cut off discs, i've only done one so far. i left a little meat on there to grind down cause i was afraid to cut it too close, i want it to be perfectly round and seamless when i paint it. first i made a small cut at the top, approx. 1/4" deep, then the same on the bottom, then across the outside. then i was finally able to use my favorite tool the two pound sledge hammer, one little tap and it popped right off! hopefully can do the bottom one tonite!  | ||

Go to a welding supply store and buy a few 4" cutoff blades, aka skinny wheels, razor blades ect. One blade will easily do that job and a lot more. You can attach it to any small side grinder. You can even pick up a super cheap grinder at harbor freight to use for just this purpose. The cut off wheels for the dremel tool are expensive, just get a 4" setup with your money and you can cut right through stuff like butter!! Just my 2 Cents. Hodakaguy | ||

thanks, i'll have to buy a new grinder first tho, using the regular grinding wheel my grinder bought the farm 1/2" into the job. i was'nt aware there were 4" cutoff discs otherwise i woulda used that as opposed to the 4" standard grinding wheel. live and learn! | ||

I cut the hugger lugs off my X1 swing arm with a hack saw. Left them a little proud then almost finished them off by hand with a sharp small file. Finished finally by hand with a bowl of water wet and dry and a block of wood. Rocket |
