Yeah, I remember that. Motor had 12:1 compression, unstreetable cams, no air cleaner, and Nutec Special 5 in the tank, we just touched 120hp (which of course is within 1hp of 124 at 11:1, pump gas, and with air cleaner*). Then on it's first pass at Bonneville, it destroyed both pistons. Yeah, what a great motor. Reminds me of a very expensive 100 inch motor that grenaded very early in it's life**. Remember that one? Took out both heads, both cylinders, both pistons, and one rod. Who built that motor again?

And that's just the plain old facts.

Your agenda here is very transparent. Looks real bad on you.

* - XB heads ported on NRHS's CNC machine. Baseline port profile was digitized version of a port that was hand ported by Brian Nallin. Port profile digitized data was post processed with an NRHS proprietary program written by Aaron Wilson.

** - Motor purchased on March 6th, 2002, with about 1800 miles on it since the initial build. Suffered a catastrophic valvetrain failure on March 17th, 2002. Rebuilt by Aaron Wilson using parts & services purchased from Cycle Rama and Axtell. Ran magnificent after that, set a Bonneville record at over 200mph. Has not suffered a major failure since.

No problem, the idea if possible to alter the internal map is of interest, that would be largely un detectable, replacing the FI with a carb well thats easy to see not to mention frought with a whole spate of other issues.

the state (NC) can be anal about some things If the law makers get it in their heads that altering the fuel delivery system is against the law and make an issue of it, to have a carb on a bike that was FI when built could have some serious ramafications

come to think of it most factory engine accessories are marked racing only, and wording about voilating EPA regs come to mind,

I can simply purchase a race ECM and be done with it, But having MY motor tuned to IT'S best potential is appealing, as well as having a knoweledgable tuner do it.

The Race ECM and the PC3 (factory maps) are cookie cutter fixes, having Wes or any other "Guru" alter the factory box settings well thats whats best

In all honesty I would be supprised if any of the older EFI systems can be altered by any one with out factory tools, the investment in time and equipment to reverse engineer the ECM would be staggering.

Your post got MY attention thanks for sharing ...

disclaimer, yes some settings are alterable, and ok I am paranoid, but I can see being told that my bike is not street legal because of an inlet alteration, they will be using "sniffers" on car tail pipes here in 2 more years

My dealings with Aaron in business, and as a friend, have been beyond reproach. He and Susan are good people.

Apparently spewing personal attacks on Badweb is now not only acceptable but actually condoned by people who really ought to know better. Someone ought to make the appropriate changes in the Badweb posting policy.

Not much "shun the hate" and "follow the light" 'round here these days.

2 things;

1) you can only judge a person on what he says and what he does.
2) Integrity is what you do when no one is looking ...

I am not trying to judge anyone. Wes' integrity(as well as mine) is beyond compare.

Oldog, When you alter an ECM or jet a carb, one of the prime objectives is to balance the air/fuel. So I would think things would be a bit more acceptable in the eyes of the law.

Whether or not the arc of transcendence is established here over a couple of gunny-sacked eBay heads, that is to say, who can wee-wee the farthest about questionable pedigree, history and/or quality of present, former or whoever's workmanship, I fully expect to do more business with NRHS as a Buell-centric shop/supplier.

Oldog, From what I am told it is possible. We've been modifying stock ecm's on other bikes for awhile now.

I don't know that it is of value on the old system though. Where the problem lies is the problem.

Dawg -- the use of sniffers is to be cheered, if anything will be done

they used em in Illinois for years, and a well-tuned car or bike did fine

several years agao, they switched to just checking under the hood and flor pan for stock appearing components, and, if the car/truck is new enough, plugging into a port on the engine management computer top check for alterations

stock, yer fine -- altered, yer not. This, in spite of the fact that staockers can be spewing clouds of unburnt oil to the degree that it looks like you're moonlighting for the mosquito abatement district -- silly, really

just sand the "Race ONly" designation off the EDM, and I"m bettin your scoot will sail through any sniffer test with flying colors ;-}

I, for one, am saddened by all this.

I had hoped the situation would change for the better and Aaron would return.

Aaron is, one of the most insightful and willing to help people on this board. He's a big part of what made this place so valuable and cool.

His leaving here is a significant loss to everyone who uses this board.

He has always been honest and generous, going back years, that I know of personally from when I started with the Sportster List Race Team.

This is a situation that I never expected to see happen, at first I was surprised, but still hopeful things would work out. Now it seems things are only getting worse.

Very unfortunate.

I don't think anything is worse, just perhaps more visible. If anyone was involved, they have already made their decisions and no amount of arguing is going to change anything. If anyone was not involved (including me), it is frankly none of our business, and we should stop gossiping about it. If you have a concern, take it up directly with the person you have a concern with, and decide if you want to business with them based on that.

If I could afford it, I would not hesitate to send a bike and a blank check to either Aaron or Pammy. I have absolute confidence that what I get back would be outstanding. I know who I would choose, but that is more about personality and approach rather then results. I believe both shops do outstanding work.

I also know that if I asked Aaron about Aarons work, or Pammy about Pammy's work, I would get honest, expert and complete answers about the pros and cons of different options and approaches for a fast bike.

I am not interested in the least in Aaron's opinion of Pammy's work, or Pammy's opinion of Aarons work, and I would appreciate it if all parties stop offering it unsolicited, especially in public.

even famous Nascar engine builders blow up engines. and these are engine builders with huge expensive shops, staff of people, years of knowledge, etc.
I am not a fan of racing in a circle.

Like I've said before. The Buell community is very very lucky to have such good engine builders.

I just have to clarify that Cycle-Rama did not blow up or cause the damage to the aformentioned engines. If anyone would like to call or e-mail me about the particulars of the accusation, I welcome you. I cannot, however let that statement stand, unchallenged.

I also do not wish to drag down this site so private e-mails and phone calls will be all I can deal with.
