Beautiful bike, Lefty. For us that aren't familiar enough with the intricacies, what would be the spotter's guide clues that it's an RS? |

One of the most obvious differences is the 4 'spoke' configuration of the PM wheels - the later units have 3. The RS bikes were all chain driven, and the footpeg/isolator plates are different then the ones on the S2 in that they don't have the extension on the rear part of the plate for the passenger pegs. The front brake rotor has the 4 spoke detail, and the caliper on the front says "PM" - I think the S2's had the same unit but it has an engraved Buell logo instead of the Performance Machine symbol. The triple trees are machined Billet - S2 are from castings. I don't have an S2 to compare it to, but the frames on the RS bikes are slightly different and have less 'curves' (for lack of a better term.) The stock RS motor will have the earlier XL primary cover without the large removable cover over the clutch area. I changed mine to a later cover. (I have the old one if anyone needs one) I personally don't know of any other RS or RSS that has S2 bodywork, so the easiest way to tell is it won't look like like an S2, unless you're looking at mine! AL ps If it's leaning on the sidestand at about a 45 degree angle - it's an S2! |

The early S2 triple clamps were machined from billet just like the RS's. However, most S2 triple clamps were forged not cast. 1313 |

I'm p*ssed off that when I switched over to an S3 frontend, I lost my nice Billet trees. |

Brankin beat me to the punch. The S-2 I sold to Eric had them and my current/first S-2 has a top billet clamp courtesy of Brankin. |

I reside in UK and saved a 1995 S2 from the chopper fiends. Purchased in Wisconsin in April 2005, rode 3500 miles in seven days to Sturgis this year, after having it modded up, and have now shipped it home, to live with my S1 and S3 I believe it is No.780. I would like to get a signature series timing cover if it is entitled to one, but do not how to get this, any ideas. Original owner of 10 yrs never had one. Also is it common for the bike to rock off the side side, any solutions. It hasn't fallen over yet but I have to be careful how the bike is parked up. Thanks |

whitey, leave it in gear when parked or it will eventually fall over. some have bent the sidestand for better stability. tim |

I sent a note to blake and asked if he could set us up a registry, and sent him a copy of the ducati registry. set this up, where it always stays at the top of the discussion board, and could always be updated by the owners. photos attached would be nice too, don't you think? rex |

A most excellent way to keep track of the S2's!! It would also be nice with photos! Perhaps 'elvish' commentary on development and construction...and a link to the discussions about the S2 frame geometry? Thank You Rex. |

1996 S2T last four of VIN 0303. I bought this one new and she only has 1700 miles on her. Sucks being a single Dad of two. I do have the signature series package as well... somewhere.

>>>I know that there is still a lot of time before the "Home Coming", Actually. . . I'll keep yo posted on the 2006 Homecoming. I'm going to be asking a few questions in the next week. By the way. . . it's just me, but some of you recall that, when the opiners were opiniating last year about Buell and Daytona, that I, your faithful scribe had yelled "no, wait until 2006" through the madness. I wouldn't miss Daytona 2006 for the world. The chance to rise above cole slaw wrestling and see what the Daytona 200 was meant to be. Course. . . that's just me. Court |

any reason noone's responding to my queries regarding california numbers? kinda important, really. If i were to say my S2T is # 0003/36 for '96, I'd be mistaken, as it's actually # CA0003/36, and there were many more S2Ts manufactured in 49 state trim, and the third one off that line would be the actual #0003... |

Tramp, did you ever find out what was wrong with your clutch or whatever was making it make noise? I know this isn't an answer to your CA/VIN question but I figured I'd ask anyway. |

WE probably don't know the answer...some folks like Dave gess or Court would probably have to answer the question... I have number 40 m2 made, and it is a california number. I had asked if it was number 40 only in california, or number 40 off of the line. I was told number 40 off of the line.....California numbers were counted in the whole number made? this was for the m2's...I don't know about s2's. but I do have the letter from buell explaining my numbers...it was cool to get communications like that in the early years....very helpful... I have it framed...thanks,rex |

In '96 there were separate numbers for California and the other 49....Like I say, mine even has the "CA" on the sig series timing cover AND on the laminated card.... cool- looks like i stil have the postcard (all blank) that I shoulda mailed in to Buell. also, on my "letter" from Erik, it states that: "Only 2,147 S2 and S2T Thunderbolts were handcrafted between 1995 and 1996." almost makes me feel badly for selling all my bodywork... From my 1995 S2 Thunderbolt Owner's Manual: Obviously this breakdown is for the early bikes. My '95 S2 (#1313) has a 4MZRT... V.I.N. so my S2 violates what is 'documented' here. Astute observers now will be able to answer the Old School Buell trivia question: What was the road that the current Buell factory is on called before it was renamed Buell Drive? Tramp, On a serious note to your CA bike question. Where the 'standard' S2 VIN has an '11' for engine designation do you have a '56'? I know later Buell's used '56' to signify a Cali bike, but am not 100% sure if it went back to the S2 days. I checked the copy of the cover of my original build schedule for my S2 and the '11' numbers were automatically filled in on the build schedule, but in those days it would've been typical just to cross out the '11' and write in '56'. Pretty easy check. Hope this helps. Let us know what you find out. On a not so serious note, when your S2 wore it's distinctive Barney Purple (sorry Parkway Blue) bodywork, did you ever refer to it as "Tramp's Purple Monster"? 1313 |

Tramp - yeah it's your standard 96 parkway blue T. I'm gonna try and give here a ten year makeover this winter. Have a lot of ideas. Let ya know in the spring how she turns out. 1313 - "Tramp's Purple Monster"? That's cool. |

They're ignoring you just like they ignore me, Tramp. 1313. Do you have the Signature Plate? If so does it read 1313 of 2147? Or FMJ, same question about 036? Does the plate read 36 of 2147? Or do guilty minds not want me to inquire? |
