My wife's S2 (now sold - I think it still is owned by Joe in Oak Hill CA) had the California Air Quality mandated Quicksilver carb. it was installed that year so that Buell could meet the emissions regs here. It is my opinion that the lowered emission level of the bike was severely compromised when the POS carb caught fire and fried the air filter and CF cover! (anyone know how much pollution is emitted by burning motorcycle parts?) Joe sometimes posts here- maybe he'll chime in and let us know if that S2 is still on the road. AL |

When I toured the factory in 1995 I asked about the Quiksilver carbs and was told they would have liked to put them on all the models not just CA bikes but couldn't work out a price deal and that they actually put out better HP numbers |

JT,Quiksilver was decent carb and easy to tune, but I have seen 3 of them shed the inside corners of the slide with ensuing damage to motor. So cannot recommend them for any Buell you are going to put decent mileage.Mine went at 40k+. |

JT - I hope you are going to use that Quicksilver carb for the "museum bike" you're planning to build, and not one you plan to ride. I can only speak from my own experience, but the early (pre-Edelbrock) units were basically a poorly executed copy of a Mikuni - hard to tune and adjust. Mine also worked as a randomly-activated incendiary device - it would spew gas into the air filter, then 'pop back' and set that gas on fire--making things real interesting while sitting at a traffic light! As I said in a much earlier post - if the Quicksilver carbs were great carbs, you would see them on bikes everywhere. You don't. Just my 2 cents. AL |

JT- The Qwicksilver (sic) used in the S2s was also a much smaller cfm model than it's cooler stepbrothers marketed by edelbrock. A brother of mine did a brisk business retrofitting Keihin CVs to cal. Model Buells in the 90s. He was using Cvs from customer bikes that he'd fitted with Mikunis and fitting them to Buells. A decent Keihin Cv went for considerably more in The Bay Area than it did her in NY, I think for that reason. I sold a few Qwicksilvers on ATC, and I noticed the buyer spromptly resold them. trust me, they suck. and not in the way you want a carb to.... I cannot believ I'm not at Bikes Blus and BBQ this year. First Liberty, then this. At least my clucth and Isos are sorted out. T-Rex: what's your take on the seperate #s for the Cali bikes? Is anyone going to specify that in the list? kinda important, being you'll have 2 S2s with the same Signature Series #, unless the "CA" is specified. |

Seth's wrong. And I think we need Court's help. JT, Look for the last three (or four) numbers of the VIN. The cover I have is for #433, the VIN is: 4MZRT11H4S3000433. #433 out of a total 1399 for that year. I've raised this issue before: there was a change in serial number series in 1995. Mine reads 1BRT....258 and is earlier than the 4MZRT series. Which is to say that 4MZRT.....433 isn't the 433 bike unless they ran the 1BRT series to, say, 258 then switched to the 4MZRT series by using 4MZRT....259. See what I mean? Oh. And the Keeper of the List should note that 258 is no longer FMJ's, but mine. And I never got that Tbolteric thing going. |

Rex, Blake, etal...can we establish an S2 registry? Similar to the Ducati SS/SP series? Suggested format? Located where on this board? Thanks to another badwebber, who rescued a basket S2, I now have a genuine hand-made fiberglass body set in fabulous Yellow Pearl! The original Parkway Blue will be repaired or replaced and then all the pieces color matched. Is the Buell Motorcycle company doing any good-will replacement for blistering paint? There are a few spots of the dreaded 'pox' on the tank cover...I'm tempted to just keep it because it is OEM with the sticker checklist in place...strictly cosmetic. |

Wasn't meaning to dis you, Seth. Well, Court. If you're tossing stuff and any of that stuff is a Signature Plate reading #258, let me know. (Although my Signature Plate is probably in the hands of the person with 4MZRT.....258.) |

If & when the 'S2 Registry' gets put together, will there be be any room for an "honorary" or "Looks like an S2" category? My RS/S2T is now roadworthy again after a 2 year hiatus while I got my - ahem- solid bodily waste products together - to get the turbo repaired. It's not an S2T, and it is not eligible for the signature documentation and timer plate, but it DOES say "S2T" on the tank cover! That's gotta count for something! I just have to re-instate my insurance and stick on the new tag sticker and I'm on the road! I'd put it in the RS registry, but there isn't one, and if there was, it would be pretty lonely there with all 6 or 7 of us there! While I'm on the subject, is there any idea of how many PRE-S2 Buells are still around? AL
