I got a Penske 8900 shock that's been sitting on my bench for the last 8 months. I got a wild hair up my a$$ this afternoon, and decided it was bout time to get that puppy mounted up to my 98 S1W. I had it apart in about 10 minutes. (Handy Lifts ROCK! I recommend every motorcyclist to get one.) I placed the new Penske into the front shock mount, and noticed that the front eyeloop had a signifiacant amount of freeplay while in there. Like a 1\4" in each direction. Also, the stock shock bolt was waaaay smaller than the front eyeloop on the Penske. The rear eyeloop bolted up perfectly, same as stock. I'm wondering if i'm missing something, like shims or washers. Any others have any problems installing a Penske? Also, i'd love to see some pics if ya got em. Lata Boys... I | ||

You are missing the bushings, Mike. They are a split bushing, one goes in from each side. There were two types of bushings, and they aren't interchangeable. Gimme a call at American Sport Bike tomorrow and I'll give you the phone number of who to call to get one. If you have a digital camera, take a picture of the front shock eye. Al | ||

Al, i just got in. I'm way to tired and grouchy to take a pic of it right now. I did shoot an email to Penske last night, and to my surprise, they got back to me. They described it as a 2 piece bushing that mounts inside of the monoball. Part # BU-50-Buell $10.60 for each half. So i guess i'll get it straight from the horses mouth. I do appreciate your help though. THANKS!!! |
