I just pulled my rear wheel to change rubber and noticed the outer drive side wheel bearing outer race turns in the wheel. Am I SOL? Al |

Maybe not. Possible fixes include knurling the inner diameter of the wheel hub to regain an interference fit with the bearing outer races, or installing a pressed-in sleeve, or overboring the bearing cavity and fitting an equivalent bearing with oversized outer race OD. Also consider using the locktite green adhesive to help secure the outer race from now on. |

So what causes this? My x1 only has 8400 mi And I bought it new 16 month ago. Also Where can I get the wheel fixed? Al |

Spidey. Is that kind of bearing common? Will I need to have anything done to the wheel? Al |

Perhaps some bearings were installed wrong at the factory? Mine have been fine for 57K miles but I hear about these low mileage failures all the time on the board. |

Well, you will have to go to a bearing specialty store. The reason I say a .005 over bearing is this give you a chance to get the wheel hub machined to make sure it is true. I would take it to a good machine shop to hook the wheel up first. Do this just in case your inner hub is way outta round so you know what over size bearing you need to get. Also this will tell you if the metal in your rim is jacked up, which couls be the reason your bearing walked on ya or the person who instaled the bearings previously set it in crooked too could be a possibility. So to re-cap. Get wheel machined, then get bearing at least .005 over the current size. Press in and you good to go. A good machinest should be able to tell you if the metal in the rim is good or not. |

BTW, is it a X1W with white rims or does it have white rims? If so, Buell had a problem with the white rims, the inner spacer was too large causing bearings to walk and sieze. |

Ken Thanks for the offer. I might have to take you up on that. I had a chance to take the wheel off and remove the bearings. I had our local machine shop look at it. He did a quick measure of the hub and the new bearings and suggested Knurrling and useing black locktite. He couldn't get the correct left side bearing so I call the dealer I got the bike from to order it. I explaned what happened (4 months out of factory warr. only 8400 mi.) and they are thinking about a good will claim. The only problem is I am completely across the state from them and they want the bike there. So far that is where it is at. Al |

Here is an update. The dealer will goodwill the rim, BUT they will not do it unless the bike is there. Not just the wheel, The whole bike in one piece. The wheel is already tore down and pics were sent to them of the damage. The dealer is 3 to 3.5 hours away and I can't close down the shop for a day so that is not an option. Going to drop it off at the machinist tomorrow. Ya know that just rubbed me the wrong way. I can see their point but a little flexability for a customer who purchased his bike their. I guess when it is time for one of those XB12Ss I will be making a trip to Wisconsin. My rant is over now got to go finish painting. Al |
