I was shopping for tires this weekend and found that Cyclegear will change the tires for $12 per tire is they are already off the bike. In contrast, the local stealer wants $90 per wheel. I'm thinking of just removing the wheels myself to take them in. I've got a rear wheel stand, but not a front. How hard is this to do? I haven't tried this before, so I want to double check before I attempt this. Any suggestions from those of you that have done this before? Thanks. |

Super easy, if you have the manual. If not, I am sure someone here will post the instructions. I just did mine this spring but can't remember the details off-hand. |

geez- covered this in another post a few days ago. rear- just put bike on sidestand, tilt over to kickstand side, far as it'll go, and put a jackstand under that side's buddypeg or main footpeg mount. next, tilt bike over THAT side, and do same with peg on other side, ie: jackstand or cinderblock on end w/ wood on it. for the front, put a floorjack with a nice 2 foot +/- length of 4x4 standing on it under the lower triple clamp. jack up, and remove wheel. hint: do the more nerve-wracking caliper-removal before jacking machine up. it's stupid-easy |

Yeah, removing the brake caliper is the hardest part of the job. Put some tape on the wheel when you shimmy the caliper off to keep from scratching it. |

when you've got the calipre off, break the edges of the lump with a course file -- makes later removal and installation alot easier -- ya don't havta remove much material, mebba a 32 or so, and you'll pat yerself on the back next time for being such a thoughtful and enterprising wrench spinner |

Tramp -- thank you sir (take a bow) wish I could say I thought of it the FIRST time I dropped the thing -- sadly, I do not learn that quickly (gives bow back) make sure the file is the coarsest ya gots -- the alum will clog the poor dear up lickity split -- run a piece of chalk across it to keep that from being a problem |

Den -- sorry, bud, I gotta stop mumblin -- lump = caliper -- it's easy to see where it's hanging up onthe wheel, just remove a small amount of aluminum til it goes on easier |

Thanks all. That doesn't sound too hard. I appreciate the tips on the calipers and jacking up the front. |

I currently use a jack under the rear shock mount, hang the front end from the rafters and use tie downs off the sides to keep it stable... probably not the safest way to go, but I am too cheap to buy stands....lol |
