Hello all I have a general question. I have a redneck mutant I just finished using the drivetrain out of my 99 x1 FI.The bike had 8500 miles on it and ran like a dream till it got totaled, it still ran perfect just couldn't drive it. Since getting this project up and running I have what I think is a drivetrain noise and can't figure where it is coming from my first thought was primary cause it only does it going down the road with not a lot of load on the motor and when you gas it it goes away inspected primary found broken chain adjuster and repaired but the noise is still there almost sounds like a metallic rapping noise like chain hitting the cases or something. It is still FI would a detonation problem be that loud.new pipes and all and reset ignition per factory specs. I know its not a Buell anymore but the heart of it is! Thanks for any help. |

Were there any visible signs of the primary chain hitting the inside of the cover or the engine cases when you had it open? Did you set the primary chain tension by the manual? |

No visible marks and yes I set it per the manual.Even kept rotating around about 6-7 times till i felt positive it was as perfect as possible. |

two questions: 1)what, exactly, was 'broken' about the primary chain adjuster? 2)is that a secondary chain I see in the photo or is it a belt? (Message edited by tramp on July 29, 2005) |

the metal bracket was cracked in half right by the lock nut and yes it is a chain drive not belt. |

did you checkmate the leftover pieces form the bracket to assure that you removed all of it? also- check your chain alignment, after dropping that mill into that.................. .....................*frame* |

Yeah I cleaned everything out just to make sure it was a clean crack no pieces missing or anything.I used a straight bar to do the alignment on the chain unfortunately it is as straight as it will ever be, I would have to offset the wheel to the left to get it perfect and then it would rub on the fender. |

theres' your problem. ever think about moving (or cutting out a section of) the FENDER? I've seen exactlt this symptom on chops that guys have brought to me due to such drivetrain rumble.... best fix is to install a Buell frame on that thing. If you Really crave attention, wear KISS makeup. |
