I have a V&H slip on for my S3T. I thought that I recently read a thread that stated that some needed repacking. Does anyone know if a V&H slip-on needs repacking? I sent an email to V&H and I have yet to hear from anyone. Any input is greatly appreciated. |

Yes, it needs repacking. It can shake itself apart without the damping effect of the packing. |

I have had good results repacking with Rock Wool (used in flues for some parts of the country). It resists the power pulses of a V-Twin quite nicely. I think I wrote a long post about this subject back in 2002 or so. I'll search the "knowledge vault" for it. Fiberglass seems to wear out too quickly in V Twins. |

Philip, I think it was me that recommended the American Sport Bike packing. It's a neat easy to install setup. Kind of like a firm pillow with a hole down the middle. My S2 packing is still good after 4+ thousand miles... |

I have about 25k on this bike with about the sam amount on this pipe...How would I know if repacking is required and how often should this be replaced? What could happen to the bike if the pipe is not re-packed? |

my white bro's superclap copy has 50000 kms so far and still appears to be fine. has anyone looked into the use of ceramic refractory material rather than the usual fibreglas packing? |

if you have a v&h muffler and the old style mounts, letting the packing go inside is a recipe for disaster! that little nightmare will shake itself right off the bike! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/69758.html |

Tripp...Will the same apply to a 2000 X1 with the upgraded mounts? If so, looks like I will be doing some repacking in the near future. |

Tripp...You mentioned in that you are going to replace it with a signature series exhaust. What do you mean? Is there a slip-on that is better than the V&H? Just curious and I am sure this would be a subject for another post. |

the packing is not only for noise reduction but also for vibration reduction, i did'nt end up getting the sig series, however i did get a force full exhaust on ebay and i'm glad i did! james, i believe the d&d is a popular slip on and from what i understand does'nt require repacking. bill, if you've never repacked then you probably should, my v&h failed at the rear mount(on the can itself) as well as the front! All what would you view as a "tell tale" for need to repack, |
