hey guys, sorry it took so long to get back and sorry for any unanswered questions. the past while has been one heck of a hail storm. things are finally starting to calm back down and i am going to try my best to start posting one thing a day (except wednesday, one day trip to indiana and back for grandfathers brain drain). i am still out of it being as i haven't been on here for a while. i noticed some of you guys talking about the xb to tuber front motor mount and figured that was as good as place as any to start again.

ok so this pretty much was my starting point. a cold saw block of billet 6061 al. i first squared and trued the block up. its about 5"x7"x2".

after taking a million measurements i headed out to the mill.

the first real cut to the block were to angle the top of the block

and put in the bolt hole for the top isolator "rubber mount" bolt.

then we lay her down and start trimming the fat.

as the chips pile up the weight comes off

in this picture you can better see the shape the block is taking. the raise to the left is where the motor mount will attach to the heads. the step in the middle is extra clearance to ensure ample room from removal and installation of any rocker boxes. my stock motor mount always bound on the mid rocker cover.

after drilling the two motor mounting bolt holes threw the block she got flipped. then i started to carve the access to the top motor mounting bolt. i wanted a little more room to sneek my socket straight in and out.

this shot lets you better see the angle the piece is in the vice. the side toward the vice is attached to the head.

after that a quick trip to the bandsaw to loose a lot more weight.

hey guys good to hear from you all. but its not done yet or at least my posting of the project.
seth, come on over and chill, i need a new part inspector since the passing of igor..
oldog, strong as hell, i could probably crash my bike and that would be the only usable part left. dont remember exactly bough a bunch of al that day and the total for everything was like $250. but that was al for a lot of projects.
bomber, create away, i aim to inspire, go forth, improve and post pictures brother.
djkaplan, tall order brother, no they cant be ready tomorrow, ya gotta give me a couple days to scrape up some more big chunks of billet to cut
steve mackay, yup all my projects are made hand cranking old school on crappy equipment. but i seem to have a strange place in my heart for crappy old school stuff.

ok after the trimming on the band saw i set the piece to the proper angles i wanted and trimmed the two outer edges. then she got laid back down in the vice.

so now she is coplete'ly done as far as functionality is concerned. you could call it quits and bolt her big but on.
so now its just a matter of looks, weight and functionality. i kinda wanted to keep the look of the original s2 front motor mount. just with the minor changes i wanted. you know "better". so now it was time to hollow out the inside.

its kinda a very accurate and artistic approach to whittling.

now you can see the mount starting to take shape.

its pretty much just shaping it to clear everything.

and this is pretty much whats left of that big block plus a couple chunks that were cut off with the band saw

Aaron you used a counter sink for the reliefs at the top? Neat idea never tried to use one as a milling cutter, and oh it looks good too!

BTW i was trying to id the millling machine, it aint a "bridgeport", what make is it?

hey oldog,, technically that isnt a countersink its a simple 45 cutter. 1" od with a 1/2" shank. but ive used counter sinks before if that helps. the milling machine is a bridgeport knock off, called a millport. cheep made variable speed head, has a nice accurite dro on it. ,

i probably wont be able to post again until thursday, have to make a run to indiana to make sure everything is ok with my grandfather. my brother and i are heading out in an hour and hope to be back around this time tomorrow night. should be interesting.

Aaron:

When you decide to give up bikes, I'll get you a position heading up the machine shop with any of the top 5 NASCAR teams, in about 5 minutes. We have CNC machines that do no where as clean a job as you do. When we get closer with the project X1, we'll get on the list for one of those. Great to have you back.

natexlh1000, thanks man, think i listed more on the custom breather setup a while ago in a post with my custom catch can. if you didnt see that one check it out. search in old school buell for aaomys catch can and you should be able to find it.

hotrodsportster, man you got my mind spinning,i bet their would be some pretty awesome tools at the finger tips too. a piece of my handy work rocketing down a straight a way, at break neck speeds, now that would truly be a thing of beauty....

rick a - hey the man from this area,,, man are you missing some beautiful riding,,, if you like the breather set up check it out ,follow the search above and it will pretty much show you how and what you have to go thew.

road thing,, thanks it good to know that these post are even looked at. much less appreciated. maybe tomorrow if i get home before dark i can post some pictures of it on the bike for you guys.

today i machined up a couple adapters so hopefully i can get that new brake line on and get her up and running again. a brake fluid induced power slide at 80 going threw a hard left turn isnt my cup of tea,,, well at least with out warning.
