they're not "build{ing} a chopper out of them", they're parting them out. once you've changed the frame, you are no longer in the 'build a chopper out of them' arena, you're really only practicing mechanical vivisection. the engine alone makes NOT an S2 (or any other model of motorcycle, for that matter). somethingthoughtfully designed has been destroyed. |

The way I look at it .... Sure its a shame but they own the bike. If they're parted out, don't the parts go to an S2 owner/enthusiast? Keeping ours on the road. S2 parts are getting obsolete or replaced with inferior replacements. Have ya purchased a replacement front fender yet? Buell (Harley-Davidson) will send ya a plastic S3 fender. DAve |

what can I say- to me a vehicle is a living, breathing entity, albeit not an 'organism'. a buell 'collector' once blew me some she-at because of my S2's 'nekkidness'... I explained that my buell is a living thing, and it prefers a nice clean shave, why did HE shave his face? ...then I patted my S2's tank and horse-whispered some mumbo-jumbo to 'er, to which she responded with an approving snort.... |

Vomit when you read this; http://www.redneckengineering.com/donor_bikes.htm They even mention to buy the donor biker on this web site. Look at this pic for a fine example of the workmanship, looks like it's been polished with scotchbrite. http://www.redneckengineering.com/images/Bike%20Pics/MUTANT-REDNECK-BUELL-06.jpg Den |

I must admit I was tempted to do a mutant chop on my S2 but I just don't think I could do it. The only real driving force is $$. It's sucha cheap way to build a chop. But it seems like prices have gone up slightly on buells since buell "choppers" have gotten popular. I have found an alternative that is almost as cheap and very similar. I'm now thinking of finding an Ironhead sporty to chop. they have a more classic look and are about as cheap as buells. My S2 will remain an S2, but I think I might do some internal modification as soon as I collect the funds. |

why would anyone 'chop' such a thoughtfully designed machine when there are SO many evo sportsters out there with that bsa goldstar handling? look- you can get a sporty more cheaply than a buell, and after you've pulled the engine, you can sell the frame to some HOG nitwit for his "ole Lady"..... I hate to inform some of y'all, but the buell is essentially what the earliest chopper builders were going for: the lightest, quickest, barest Harley v-twin powered scoot possible. they only USED rigids because they only HAD rigids. cut the poseur nonsense and keep your buell engine in that excellent frame, you wannabe sonny bargers.... I weep for the future |

Just picked up an m2 on the ebay line....guy had taken the motor out of it to build a chopper. everything on the bike is there, except the motor. now to find a used chopper with a buell motor in it, and take it back out..ahahhahahhaha, rex |

saw the new ones (XB's) once at an H-D dealer in their buell catalog, thought it was only 2999. Might be wrong on the price tho. |

They sell crate motors, but if you buy a bike you can use the wheels, forks, motor, brakes, etc. and part out the rest. It's economically a better proposition. Don't like it, but I understand it in some sense. |

bsa goldstar handling? ouch! ;-} Adam Smith wins most everytime, fellers -- a lot like gravity, yes? the good news is when the MaDeuece start needing stuff that I can't get from the factory anymore (I tend to keep scoots a long time), there will be a great parts department in the Entropy Lab that will allow me to confound youngster for decades to come (I've started gathering controls and switches, experience tells me those are the first things to get rare) |

When and where is the S2 re-union? We really should get one going. I would love to get a family photo. |

Yuck...That redneck link was like reading a "How to" about becoming a serial killer. ...first you stalk your potential victim. then you yell "IT PUTS THE LOTION IN THE BASKET". I felt dirty just skimming through it. On the topic of choppers, Why do they all seem to have their left pant leg pushed to above their calf? I was behind this guy on this pos chopper and at every stop light, he made sure his left pant leg was up. Since then I have noticed a few other who do this. Also..What is it with chopper guys and wearing old Chuck Taylors? Phatkidwit1eye (also known as the guy who vomits when crappy chopper builders say "Old School".) (hmmm...I wonder if they even went to School) |

I like the way the chopper riders stick their feet out like pointing at 90 degrees to the axis of travel. What's with that? it's unnatural, but then the ergonomics of many choppers look like they are made to fit ET but not people. With the back stretched out so the arms can reach the handlebars and the feet stretched out the rider looks like the letter C. With the lack of suspension and inherent spinal load I would expect discs to pop out of the spine every time they hit an expansion joint in the highway. Ouch! Old Skewl indeed...Den |
