I was cleaning up my 98 S3 and pondering an easy pull clutch and noticed a switch mounted under the lever that is operated by the clutch lever. I tried to trace the wires but without pulling the tank I'll be danged if I can figure out what it is for. It's not a safety for starting with the clutch in is it? If so, it doesn't work. Help.... |

Actually, yes it is. If the bike is not in neutral, that switch needs to be open (clutch lever pulled in) to start the bike. |

T_bolt, I cant say for sure, BUT, thats the only switch I have ever seen on a clutch in general, car/truck/bike... There would be a switch the closes(or opens), when the bike is in gear, and teh switch on the clutch would defeat that, to allow you to start the bike withtout having to find nuetral.... HTH Chase EDIT, guess Jason beat me..... (Message edited by chasespeed on May 28, 2005) |

Thanks guys, I figured thats what it was but I hadn't heard anything about that feature. I guess it's kudos to myself that I never accidently used that feature. My Ford Contour SVT has the same deal. Thanks again. |

I cut the switch and spliced the wires. Now I don't have to worry about it failing. |
