So that wasn't you who just bought a chrome derby cover??? I am all about buying certain parts to save time. Time to build the cool parts no one else has! |

 ok koz,, ya got me on that one,,,
my original cover is rather twisted, dented, and gouged. when i got the bike the shifter shaft was so bent i had to pull the shifter bushing right out of the primary cover to remove it. i straightened the shaft "sort of" those are hard as hell to bend. or maybe its just rebend. any ways the one on the bike is just a loaner. its from a wreck too. but yes its me buying a shiny piece of metal. and you might be right. i do like the look of the screamin eagle carb top. but dont worry ive been thinking of a custom derby cover project, maybe even hydraulic clutch conversion, but needed a shiny one for now. |

you know I have never seen one for the XL or Buell
applications:
riders with damaged nerves in the left hand, women, serious racing clutches

smoke daddy,, yeah i know they make them but i didnt have access to one, and funds are tight when it comes to buying stuff. i have seen some of your "plumbing" posted before in another section. your welds look amazing. wish i could learn form you. im kinda a jack of all trades and love to learn any new tricks i can add to my arsenal.
ps. did you engrave that swing arm your self? if so its beautiful work, if not great idea to bring back the engraved bikes, love it.

henrik, thanks, i always try to be a little different, and most people say i succeed!! oh yeah and i try to do things differently on the bike to.
djkaplan,, thats kind of a trick question, rear plug access is always obstructed on the s2 by the pet ••••. you can either use an open end/box end or remove the body work, loosen the tank and lift it and move it to gain socket access. it has always been this way. the can dose block some of the open end wrench swing if that is you choice weapon but dosent hinder it enough to render it obsolete. plus the can is only held on by a easily accessible button head cap screw and the two fittings. that is if i wanted to remove it. i thought about cutting down the hex part of the plug to 5/8 this would allow me easier access with a 5/8 plug socket, one with the flats cut into the top. so yes and no. good call. i like being kept on my toes. |

hear you can see the plug actually occurs in behind the can . the finning on the heads fills in the area behind the can. the pet •••• and fuel line almost sit on top of the spark plug boot.
man i love western ny this time of year. sorry guys but i dont think their could be any place more beautiful. took her out for some break in miles, rode down threw pa, and back for an oil change. |

Very nice work Aaomy. I hope one day to be able to afford the tools/machines and gain the knowledge to do such work.
Off topic: Can you actually see outta those mirrors? Seem a little to short to be of any value. If I had a pair like that the only thing I would be able to see is myself. Lord knows I don't wanna do that... laughs. |

what i did on my s2 for mirrors is i hung a set of stock hd mirrors off where the stock ones (floppy) went and they are perfect...... sooo much better than the stockers....... not to mention they are my fav color....... CHROME |

yes the mirrors are very functional. the confuse a lot of people. i am 6' 145lbs. they look between my arms and my body. the are kinda obsolete when i ride double. 2nd persons arms kinda block my view. other than that i love them. i have the same under arm set up on my 62' xlch. |

That's cool Aaomy, never thought of using them to look under my arms. I am 6'2" 175lbs. not sure that would work for me? Might have to find a loaner pair and try it out sometime. I ditched the stockers and went to bar-ends. Just got a second pair (gift) that I haven't found the time to try out yet. The jacket (bulky H-D) I have seems to block my view with the two sets I've tried so far. Maybe the third pair will be the charm. laughs

This is the first chance I've had to look at this thread - Aaomy, you are a true artist! Maybe a bit on the obsessed side- but an artist nonetheless! Pretty good photographer too!
I noticed that your lic. tag mount is not the stock fiberglass part of the tail section, do you have a close up photo of how you did that? |

nope not yet. but will in a second. i mounted the turns inside the tail section and made a al upper bracket for the plate. unfortunately ny went from stamped steal plates to flat al plates with a sticker. the vibration started to rip the plate in half. so i used two pieces of thin lexan. and sandwiched the plate between them.. ill post up some picks later. |
