Hi guys, I added another buell to my garage, a sweet 2000 M2. The guy i bought it off of doesn't have the factory owners manual. No big deal, but can someone tell me the correct adjustment (factory) for the forks. The previous owner has them WAY WAY too soft.

On the rear ive read conflicting setting. some say 2.25 turns out from full damping on compression, and 1.5 turns out on rebound. Others say 1 turn out on compression, 1/2 turn out on rebound. Which is right?

Thanks!
Jay

I see no one has answered yet, I don't know them off hand, but I am at work. I will see if I can find them in the morning for you.

The 2000 owners manual that I have in front of me says the rebound should be 1 turn from full damping (Clockwise increases damping). Unless I am mistaken there is no facility for adjusting compression damping on the M2 forks.

You can adjust them on the top. There is a small screw there.

Thanks guys, I assume this is for the rear shock correct? How about the front forks? They are set super soft as well.

Which side is compression, and which is rebound? (assuming they are set up similar to my S1's forks)

Thanks!
Jay

Just had another look at the manuals.....

Front Forks
Compression
S3: Max - 1.75 turns
X1: Max - 1.25 turns
M2: n/a
Rebound
S3: Max - 0.5 turns
X1: Max - 0.5 turns
M2: Max - 1.0 turns

Rear shock (Old Showa)
Compression
S3: Max - 0.5 turns
X1: Max - 1.0 turns
M2: Max - 1.0 turns
Rebound
S3: Max - 0.5 turns
X1: Max - 0.5 turns
M2: Max - ???

Rear shock (New Showa)
Compression
S3: Max - 2.5 turns
X1: Max - 2.25 turns
M2: Max - 2.25 turns
Rebound
S3: Max - 1.0 turns
X1: Max - 1.5 turns
M2: Max - 1.5 turns

The rebound setting for the M2 on the old Showa is not given in my 2000 owners manual but I would assume it to be Max - 0.5 turns. In fact, there are some serious errors in the manual but I have confirmed the settings from other sources (workshop manual and recall notices).
The 2000 owners manual actually confuses rebound and compression damping adjustments in some places and manages to contradict itself several times by stating in some sections that the rear compression damping adjuster is on the remote and in others that it is on the "shaft at the end of the shock".

FYI, my 2000 M2 had a shock recall as I think all did. If it hasnt been done get it done. If it has been done the 2000 info is no good anyway.
If the recall was done then you need 2001 spec's.

That is shown in the two sets of figures above for the "old Showa" and "new Showa".
A quick look at the photos on this site confirms that many are still running with the original (99/00) Showa shock; for these the "old Showa" settings are correct.
The "new Showa" settings are for the later and shorter shock fitted to 2001 bikes and retro-fitted to many earlier bikes.
