For my 98 S1W? I did a search, and got all confused...fairly easy in my state right now. I blew out my back, and i've been eating percocets like M&M's. I have the original battery, and tray, and DO NOT want to retorfit for that nasty Blast setup. I ned to know what will fit in my bike. Minor trimming of the battery pan isn't an issue. If you 'blew out' your back, why aren't you going to a competent chiropractor, who can FIX it rather than munching on pain killers that do NOTHING for the condition? Yea, I know it hurts. Yea I know your insurance doesn't pay for the chiro. I also know that about 97% of the MD's out in prescription land know virtually nothing about back problems and make a rather make their income purveying pills than assisting someone to heal so they can get on with their life, maybe even ride their motorcycles! And finally Yea 'I been there' Sorry for the rant. About the battery - I recommend looking at Yuasa's website and find the matching battery by size and amp-hour, and see if any of your local "multi brand" shops carry it. Or ask Dave on this site for the best route to go with OEM parts. AL | ||

IO've got the Odyssey battery in my S1W, I recommend it. I can get it for you if you want, but I don't have pricing here. From the Odyssey battery site: Technical Service Bulletin NUMBER 030825 Installing ODYSSEY PC 545MJ in Buell S1 Lightning The Buell model S1 Lightning 1996 – 1999 was supplied OEM with a battery under the trade name of Genesis with a Genesis part number of G12V12Ah10EP. This battery with the terminals located together on the narrow side of the battery is no longer manufactured. There is a replacement, but installation requires some minor attention. The replacement battery is under the trade name of ODYSSEY Drycell Batteries, model PC 545MJ. This battery is available through motorcycle dealers who distribute parts supplied from Custom Chrome, Chrome Specialties, Drag Specialties, Parts and Battery Plus Stores. The PC 545MJ is a considerable up grade over the Genesis battery. The PC 545MJ has a slightly different top cover edge design that interferes with the lower lip of the bikes battery tray. 2. The terminals on the PC 545MJ are on the long side. Installation Procedure – 1. Shim material approximately ¼ inch thick must be cut to fill in the lower battery tray equal in height to the lip at the end of the lower tray. 2. Install the negative battery cable onto the battery, torque to 50 inch-pounds 3. Slide the battery with the negative terminal up towards the bottom of the seat and into the battery tray. 4. Install the battery clamp bracket and tighten for a secure fit. 5. Install the positive battery cable to the battery positive terminal, torque to 50 inch-pounds. 6. Check that the battery is secure and tight in the battery tray. 7. Installation is complete. I'm not crazy about the BLAST kit either. Al | ||

be aware, MC Consumer News has a buncha instances where Yuasas die relatively quick deaths -- my stocker is going on ---- never mind, donm't want to jinx it -- many folks have great luck with the stockers (you too, if it lasted 7 years), but it's, sadly, no longer available -- , everyone that ever buys the Oddeseys seems to love em to death -- can't go wrong with either, I'm thinkin I've had good luck with DieHards in other scoots -- I'd recommend em just below the oddeseys me, I'd avoid Yuasa (had some of my own bad luck with em in a differnet scoot) (Message edited by bomber on March 23, 2005) |
