After an exhaustive search an optic was chosen. The contenders were: Generic ChiCom Colt clone. It's simple. Inexpensive. Nostalgic. And everything I need. Downsides are I've been here before and wasn't terribly impressed. They also have issues with quality control...to be expected given the $55 price point. Next up was a Cabela's 3x prism. It stacks favorably to others in this class for about $100 less. My store had one for ages until I wanted it. I'll take that as a sign. Finally there's Vector Optics. Rumor has it that these are the guys that make the higher quality ChiCom optics for everyone else. I found a "factory 2nd" on eBay for about $100 off. Whenever I've had thirty cal rifles with variable scopes I'd most often keep them on 4x. So it is. It only has a 600 yard BDC, but I think I'll survive. Primary Arms has some new micro Prisms, but they're a bit rich, yet. It's basically their micro magnifiers with reticles in them. People primarily complain about the eye relief and restrictive eye box...which is a general prism optic thing...but particularly bad here. The only complaint with my Vector Optics choice is customer service. Let's hope it doesn't break I do have the gun in hand, and it balances pretty well for the weight...which is the main reason that I wanted as little weight in the optic as possible. Gregtonn, Pat, It would seem you are ignorant of the primary innovation in the AR design...the buffer assembly. See that big long spring in the picture above? It eliminates bloody eyebrows in all but the most inept shooters. It also allows the shooter to reacquire the target more quickly. Feel free to redirect the subject as you usually do. I'm waiting for your response to my guess about the gas system. And your opinion. Sorry about my bad habit of ADHD thread drift, apologies for annoying you. But I'd rather be right than win an argument. And I haven't shot an AR-10 in a really long time, so all my recent experience with battle rifle "caliber" rifles is fixed breach, lever or bolt action rifles. ( battle rifle, aka 8mm Mauser, .303, .30-06, 7.62 NATO, 7.62x54R, etc. ) I suppose the 6.5 & 7mm Mausers ( Swedish & Spanish ) also qualify as "Full Power" battle rifle cartridges, but at the lower limit? Imho, and this seems to be the dispute here, the locked breach & semi auto actions with rare exceptions, certainly do reduce felt recoil. I'll go with shotgun design because I've more experience with them. One Brother in law has a Franchi in 20ga. using the Browning Long Recoil action. Kicks really hard, when the barrel hits the stop and transfers the motion to the frame & stock. Feels to me like a 12ga. pump. With a weird double hit to the shoulder. The other brother in law has a Browning ( FN ) gas operated 12ga. ( same as Winchester SuperX2 with added mag cutoff ) Nice and soft compared to any pump. ( or that Franchi ) And I've tried the Benelli M4, short recoil/inertial action, and rate it between a gas operated and pump. But that's all subjective. The total impulse for the same cartridge should be identical, it's just how the impulse is stretched over time. Right? So... Please enlighten me where I'm mistaken. You were right on the goose loads. |

I strongly recommend the Crosman Nitro gas piston. Breakbarrel single stroke, will go through an empty steel spray can. Muzzle velocity is right around 1,100fps in .22cal with a Crosman premier hollow-point lead pellet. Z |

Thanks, plus Crossman is local. Been looking at Gamo & Ruger. Air piston? Hmm. Never tried. It's the woodchuck digging under decks and shed I'm unhappy with. |

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2024/10/lef ties-cant-shoot-either.php More on above unsafe irresponsibility. Which I think is deliberate, but... Politics. Anyway... I'll indulge my Safety Nazi persona, and condemn these fools for cretins. Wear glasses! Idjits! End rant. Won't even get started. I even get the silly short range. Photo shoot and actors with no skills, so you can't film hits if they don't. The worst part is they could have more safely used full pop cans and got better hits on media. I suppose they thought "tacticool!!" & ... Unsafe. |

I get a lot of satisfaction just plinking with the pellet rifle in the back yard at 25 yards. Sure costs less. |

My rifle assembled. PXL_20241026_121337640~2 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr The trigger pull was 7lbs. With a reduced power trigger and disconnector spring it was down to six. It ended up weighing 8lbs 12oz, which was about a pound lighter than I expected. I had to buy a cantilever mount to get the proper eye relief behind the optic. The illumination died permanently soon after mounting it, which is a major annoyance. It's a good looking gun, I think...aside from some minor cosmetic issues. It should make for a good shooter. About $650 for a working 308 semi auto seems a decent deal. |

I got a deal at work and replaced optic. Already had some furniture, so replaced that. Might get some backup irons, IDK. PXL_20241031_124246282~2 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr It's now a solid 10lb gun. |

I guess it would be offset sights for that gun? I am thinking about some, too, but haven't done anything except look online. |

Yeah. Most likely some MBUS Pro offset. I feel like every rifle needs backup sights, damnit. I also want to have an excuse to shoot a gun with the lean |

Found an amazing CCW pistol. Sig Sauer P365 with manual safety. Weighs 18 ounces. Comes with 10 round magazines. I picked up some 17 round magazines that are not any longer than the 7 round mags for my 1911. I was surprised at how it grouped without any real effort from me. |

Those are decent little guns. I also like the Springfield Hellcat and Glock 43X as well. |

Admittedly I never tried the Glock - the Glock signature grip angle is WEIRD to my hands. I tried the 365, and ended up with a Hellcat. The 365 was too "round" - it rotated in my grip (XL hands, admittedly) in both elevation and windage; the Hellcat is more squared-off and stays put. I can mag-dump 14 rounds into a 6" plate at 7 meters, and every shot rings out. My last recert, the instructor commented "I heard two chimes but only see one hit on three of your silhouettes...damn...you overlaid your shots!" My Hellcat and I play well together |

https://pjmedia.com/paula-bolyard/2024/12/02/break ing-dem-staffer-caught-trying-to-smuggle-ammo-cach e-into-cannon-office-building-n4934770 "No one is above the law" ( apparently this staffer is very concerned about the banning of "trans people" from bathrooms if they are the opposite sex. However, I question if 11 rounds is adequate for anything except assassination? Thus, ironically, I believe it was an honest mistake to bring his illegal weapons stuff to work. And/or he's really dumb. ) I wonder if they've ransacked his home? Legally with a warrant, of course. I had an Aunt that collected thimbles. It's a thing. I know a guy who collects magazines. The more obscure the better. He doesn't own a pistol, not his thing, too expensive and time consuming. But he's got a magazine for an astonishing variety of guns, sorted, labelled, including 19th century weird Austro-Hungarian early pistols and French light machine guns. Even a Chauchat 1918 mag in .30-06 & ... Some years back he disassembled ALL of them, and gifted a fine collection of magazine springs to an out of state relative who's name I've forgotten. Pretty sure that's utterly irrelevant to a possibly murderous Congresscritters staffer, but it's possible it's not. |

Side note, on the Thompson murder currently on high rotation in Party Media with the Useful idiots cheering the murder... Ian @ Forgotten Weapons y-tube channel ( firearm expert ) was asked about the public video showing the murder and debunked a few misconceptions. Apparently the gun used was badly set up and required manual operation. Thus not a legitimate suppressor? Illegal, in New York, not a question. I mean commercially made and designed for task. ( a suppressor may not work properly on a hand gun for reasons I won't get into, because... cya & you don't need me to ) The alleged murderer ( who's residence is not known to me yet ) may, like me, live where NFA items are also State law prohibited. Doesn't matter how clean my record or if I pass Federal background checks, New York forbids us to possess a suppressor. ( And the other NFA controlled items ) So legally, if I made a home made suppressor ( can't legally purchase in the U.S. without the Tax Paperwork. & it's not a permit, it's a tax item requiring an approval, weird law ) no legitimate gun shop in New York would help me set it up to function properly. Ditto if I had a commercial model that was stolen, or otherwise illegally brought into The Imperium. Yeah, yeah, if you're reading this thread, you probably could do a good job mounting a suppressor yourself. It's just rocket science. And this in No Way is meant to imply I could illegally manufacture a NFA item!!! I mean Would. ( tool & die pro ) It's obviously not something I'm expert on since it's forbidden fruit where I live. ( cya! ) I will keep an eye out for the technical aspects on this murder. Please correct any errors. It's early days in the Media hype, and truth will be difficult to winnow out from the lies. |
