Yes Chirpy got some more love too. I swapped to a 16t front sprocket from a 15t and new DID (525VX3G112ZB) Gold 112 Link High Performance VX Series X-Ring Chain. I replaced the 38t rear sprocket with a new OEM sprocket. I had 10,000 miles on the OEM chain and sprocket. The front sprocket was showing wear and the chain had stretched a whole link over it's length. I used a four and a half foot breaker bar on the front sprocket nut while standing on the rear break. I ordered a master link with a spring clip compatible with the DID 525VX3G chain. The rear sprocket could have been re-used, but I had a new one in the drawer, so... My cush drive had minor wear in it, and will get swapped out next tire change. Test ride was amazing. I did not realize how noisy the worn chain and sprocket had become. I got some challenging wrenching on the output shaft nut. I lucked out that I had a very heavy 30mm socket set up for my breaker bar.
I even got artsy fartsy drilling holes in the extra sprocket cover for the engine.

So, from a 9 series battery to a 14 series: I put a stage-2 cam in Chirpy, and it has been wanting to drag a little while cranking since. There was a decompression feature on the OEM cam. I have decided that I'm not planning on riding in real low temperatures any more. So, Chirpy has moved over to the dark side and now has Lithium. I was looking at a 10 series anti gravity battery $180 to 200 bones for the beast online. I found out that Autozone stocks NOCO batteries. Chirpy now has a 14 series NLP14 all up in it now. Total with tax at a brick and mortar was $139.09. Makes it easy as I already have a lithium compatible NOCO-1 tender. The battery kicked Chirpy over at what seamed a normal speed. I could have put one spacer under the battery to make it the same size as the OEM battery, but opted to run it short. I gained a little comfort room for some of my extra electronics. The NLP14 is rated at 500 cold cranking amps, and weighed in at 36 ounces on my scale. Almost a 1/4 pound less than advertised. We will see how I like this. The rounded corners and shorter height made it easy to get it in the battery hole where I had to pry the lead acid in and out of. The next step on Wednesday is to take the wiring for the starter up to 8 gage wire along with the battery leads, and to replace the starter solenoid.

Nice. Always good to crank over quickly. A little extra juice for Chirpy. Now Darksiding - you're not going to put a car tire on Chirpy are you? |

Installed a new starter solenoid with 8 gage wire from battery to solenoid, solenoid to starter and an 8 gage wire from the battery negative to the starter case. Engine spins up nicely now. |

Yes it will. I would double check the polarity location prior to ordering. (Message edited by OURDEE on June 17, 2023) |

I have a habit that involves icecream. I like it. Some of the newer perversions of the food group involve floats. Not ordinary root-beer floats either. I call them high speed floats. The pictured one starts with vanilla icecream with strawberries blended in then has monster poured over it. My favorite is not pictured. It starts by making two balls out of vanilla icecream then freezing them over night. The next day I put a quarter teaspoon of hawaian punch Koolaid in a bottle of water. then mixing the water with a white can of Monster energy drink. Next I make a float with the two balls and the liquid concoction. The result is called a High Speed Creamcicle Float.
I have a bag to carry my meds in when traveling. I made it out of some old leather remnants and used a little paint on it.

Those sound delicious, and at least 2 of my Doctors would yell at me for them. The best chain shakes I've found are 5guys. Chocolate! My weakness. Once upon a time McDonald's were great but going to soft serve milk whey plastic shakes ruined it. That was so long ago some don't believe me. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/u71205832-1 d87-4433-9552-acd0e30bc48a/McDonalds-Multi-Mixer-b y-SterlingPrince-Castle-1950s-1970s?hl=en Since I'm pretending to diet, I refuse to eat mediocre ice cream drinks. If it's my ( insert number based diet cult here ) entire days ( diet cult thing ) allowance it's got to be worth it. ( for me it's carbs ) |

There was a time when McDummies had good shakes. I remember them. Then one day I didn't like their shakes. I thought it was me. Now I know. Steak-n-shake hand dipped their shakes when I worked there as a car hop in the 70s. Any time a car ordered a chocolate and a strawberry shake, I would run back to the window after delivering the shakes and request two more on a spill. The guy training me would drink the chocolate and I the strawberry. We didn't have to pay for spills or broken dishes because we had to run to and from the cars every time. That job was fun. Biggest tip came from a lady I told was pretty and that she looked just like my girlfriend. Craziest tip was the three girls that grabbed me and pulled me through their car window into the back seat of the car to blow me a shotgun. |

Will the NLP14 fit a Ulysses? Yes it will. I would double check the polarity location prior to ordering. I can confirm the NLP14 has the correct polarity location for a Ulysses. However, I would not consider it a drop in replacement. Uly battery cables interfere with the NOCO battery lugs and need to be clearanced.

However, I would not consider it a drop in replacement. Uly battery cables interfere with the NOCO battery lugs and need to be clearanced. Clearance may be as easy as unbolting those fancy lugs. You can use the flat terminals underneath of those. I needed 3 connection points for some extra equipment on Chirpy. |

I went to El Corcel's in Indianapolis and had lunch with 1313 and Crusty today. On the way there the Gammatronix single LED told me the voltage was low. Nice to have a heads up prior to the dummy light coming on. I needed to lead Brankin on the surface streets through a short cut to get him back to the interstate he needed after lunch. When I got turned around to head home the LED got to fast flashing red and the dash battery icon lit up. I was contemplating what was really wrong. Then.....Then, the LED went to slow flashing red, and solid red, and green and the dash picture of the battery went out. My first thought was CRUD, it fixed itself, I'll never find it. I got home with mixed emotions, knowing the last thing I did was clean up the wiring I installed behind the right side panel with zip ties. So, off it came, and I cut the zip ties loose. The outta the blue I says, "R.D., Check the charging fuse". There was a tap I had drawn power from for some nick nacks. Looky here:
Guess those taps aren't rated for 25 amps. I cleaned it up and put a new tap on the wire and tapped one of the three ABS fuses rated at 10 amps. instead. Then zip tied my wires back up:

Rode a little over 130 miles today out through rural Indiana. I picked up a rocking chair for $30 while I was out. Tracey has been wanting one for the porch for a while. Our lucky day. Here is the loot loaded on the "War Wagon" behind Chirpy. |

Still alive here. Tuesday I received 40 yellow jacket stings while cutting a branch off the mother-n-law's 40' cherry tree. Friday I was getting worse and went to the doctor. Steroid shot and something else. Still working on breathing with an SpO2 of 90 today. Yellow jacket queen is dead! Cherry tree is down. I got a couple of loads of wood from it.

Last week helped a buddy get a check on his bucket list, to ride in the Adirondacks where he'd been a hardcore mountain hiker. ( in his distant yout, a 46'er ) Saranac lake, Ampersand Bay resort cabin, nice. Keene valley loop, great roads. And Whiteface Mt. which was great & we made it back to camp before the rains started. Also Tail of the Pup ( Saranac ) for a generous portion BBQ. The mesh jacket I brag on all summer as being like wearing a T shirt, while awesome on an 80 degree day, is also like wearing a T shirt as you climb half a mile to a 45 degree windswept cliff. The return trip with his family in a Lincoln Navigator towing a trailer ( my head hangs in shame ) was slow in the rain, and we were laughing when a slow car got in front of us because then the cars behind weren't mad at US. Which culminated in hilarity when we got stuck behind an old lady on a Scooter from Long lake to Old Forge. |

So, here I am looking at setting up my lab equipment in the shed to remove ethanol from my fuel for the mower and bike. Being the smart feller I've been accused of, I search for ethanol free gas stations. There is one a mile from me in my neighborhood. 25 mph road almost all the way to it. I'm still going to equip the shed and then test the fuel I buy at the station. Trust but verify! I'll still be able to process 4 gallons at a time with my set up. I hate ethanol fuel. |

The guy was very happy to be reunited with his kart. He is going to rebuild it for his son to race. I often carry a two headed coin. Because we make our own luck! I've been buying and selling every where lately for the simple reason that it is helmet time. I've scored a few great buys and managed to turn them into my new helmet:
