Chirpy could use a more powerful front brake. It has a two piston front brake. The pistons are 25 mm. The brake caliper is made in India. EBC pads are FA181HH. The Harley Davidson 750 is made in India. The 750's front brake has two pistons. The pistons are 27 mm. EBC pads are FA643HH What are the odds? Well looky at those two EBC products:
Alice, the rabbit, and I have a used caliper with all the bolts and the bracket from a 2015 HD 750 IndiaGlide coming from FleaBay. Stay tuned for next weeks episode of "I finally got the front ABS to activate on Chirpy". (Message edited by OurDee on March 15, 2023) |

Well, well, well. Incredible increase in stopping power. I was concerned about a possible stoppy.

I load a bag on from the top of one pannier to the other. This gives me a 4" space under it for gear.

Nice! It's good to be able to stop when you want! What do the numbers on top of the pannier mean? |

I thought the number for gasoline was 1292. |

1203 is PREMIUM_UNLEADED_GASOLINE. Shortly after moving to NC I wanted to get some flammable 1203 stickers made for my S2's air cleaner cover, but they were a bit more than I wanted to invest. In hindsight, I'm surprised Buell never ran with that one... 1292 is Tetraethyl silicate 1261 is Nitromethane! which gets me a bit teary-eyed... |

I've snapped a crank on nitromethanol. Stoich for gasoline is near 14.7:1. That is 14.7 pounds of air for every pound of gasoline. Stoich for nitromethanol is 1.7:1. So, you would need to flow eight and a half times more nitromethanol than gasoline for your engine to operate. I'm not running nitro in Chirpy. I was only running 15% nitromethanol and 5% propanol with gasoline when the crank went on one of the engines at 10,000 rpm on my air-bike. |

I put a new switch on the handlebars on Chirpy. All I have to show for the box of goodies from Race Dynamics. With the K&N filter and Delkevic exhaust system installed, I thought it wouldn't hurt to be able to adjust the fuel air mixture. The switch lets me select one of 10 settings, and know which one is locked in. The unit is a piggy back auto tune unit that only effects fueling. There is some black magic snuck in with what it does. I have found some neat quirks as to what it does to start up idle and a time out on that function. Settings one and two are leaner. While #3 is supposed to be the OEM setting coming out of the ECM, the magic is still worked on start up idle. I did increase the air bleed on the throttle body a quarter turn to bump idle 100 RPM. Because idle is way down after it times out. I want idle between 1,000 and 1,500 RPM. Settings 4 through 10 are richer the higher the number. I will find the setting that makes the most power, then bump up richness one more to run it cooler and smoother. The unit can be adjusted on the fly while riding.

love that setup! been thinking about getting a spare uly seat back and using the hardware to build a rotopax capable mount for lockable fuel storage. and that bike sure looks familiar..... |

It is non-invasive, Can be returned to the way it arrived after it is used for the adventure. He probably already has it off for painting. |

It has the first coat of paint on it. I'll let it dry overnight. Tomorrow, it'll get the second coat. It made the ride home like it was a part of the bike. (Message edited by Crusty on April 19, 2023) |

Running home from Georgia I was pushing Chirpy on the last 100 miles. 80 on Chirpy is 1 mph from red line. Solution would be to raise red line to 85 mph by putting a 16t front sprocket in place of the 15t one. Chirpy has <25 hp. I just put a cam in to raise mid and upper rpm power approx. 20% or 5 hp. Now to wait on the British to send a 16t sprocket next month. Out with the old:
In with the new:
Copied this tool for no money. Nearly set the tappets one handed:

Good job! 5hp is a lot on that guy! Love your home made tool. 16T will help out. I put a 16tooth sprocket on my KLR650. Loved it so much, I went up to a 17T. Dropped the rpms way down. Long live the thumpers! |
