Maybe Mike will make sure I'm on the right trail for the swinging bridge. I think I was but don't want to upset a local by trespassing. I like banjo music, but it creeps me out when I accidentally stumble upon it.
natural born killa..... I was told, "It's the Indian not the arrow" every time I missed the mark. Missing the mark is the definition of sin. Until I avoided excuses the sinning continued. Practice and learning to treat every arrow as if it was the only one I had, made a difference. I only bought one bow and still use it. "I shot three hundred with my first bow.", can't be said by most archers. That bow is on it's second set of limbs, fourth set of strings, second set of grips, and on and on. It does have the original frame and cams. I need to find a range near me to practice at. I've probably destroyed a $1,000 in arrows along the way, even using pin nocks. My hope is that my wife gets how much I paid for it when I'm gone, not how much she thinks I spent.
I learned (and taught) on a pair of old recurves (one LH and one RH); those are long gone, unfortunately. I do still have my old compound, with an antique string that I should probably replace...it isn't fraying, but I just don't know what they are like as far as dryrot and age. Ditto the limbs. I draw it every now and then and it pops and creaks less than my shoulders do, but I haven't live-fired it for quite a few years. Still have some of my old 2117 arrows, but not a full set. I have about eight...but they're mismatched and have some goofy fletchings on them from back in the day (through-and-throughs on the big ol' 48" hay targets).
I need to get out and practice more. Not just for the focus and the zen of it...but for the upper body strength. And, arrows are reusable - bullets are single-use, which is what most of my practice lately has been.
I used to be able to plug a grapefruit 6x in a row at 50 yards, with a recurve - that's when I was shooting a couple hundred arrows a day, running a range and instructing. Nowadays I'd be happy to hit that big ol' 48" face 6x in a row! (I never used sights, and still don't have them).
Maybe I'll dust it off this summer and have some fun. I saw arrows at walmart the other day, like $6 each (some with incorrect fletching positions, too...SMH....). Nice thing about my long-ass arms is, I don't have to cut down the arrows!
