The numbers vary a lot depending on the agenda of opinion writer. But apparently a majority of peaceful citizens sold their banned property or gave it away legally, rather than violate an illegal law. because, gee, golly, there can't be that many so rebellious. right? I bet dozens in Illinois will cheerfully register. | ||

Today I picked up a Mossberg 500A that has a broken 500 ATP barrel (precursor to the 590). The shop was going to destroy the gun. The barrel lug was broken due to over tightening. Mossberg would not repair or replace the barrel and our local gunsmith could not repair it (instead of separating at the solder point, it broke in a jagged manner). I'm going to attempt an epoxy repair...and if that doesn't work I'll just spring for a standard 20" barrel for an eight shot mag tube. The barrel is only $150. The problem is that the only people that have them right now are trying to sell them for $300. Either way, it's good to rescue another gun destined for the bin. | ||

Las Vegas of course. My rifle came in today, but it's in GA. I checked one out at the show and it's perfect. Great sights, great balance, good feel, smooth bolt, decent trigger. Aside from the color scheme, I like everything about it. I saw the "queen of guns" Orin Julie. She was disappointing in person. Very average-ish, IMO, unfortunately...if you can believe that.  I also saw Michelle Viscusi.  It took me a while to figure out who she was. She actually looks better in person, but she hid when I came around. She is apparently sponsored by Staccato now...and their main rep was acting a complete tool. Literally everyone I talked to at the show was cool...even grumpy old Les Baer himself. But this guy had something major up his keister. No loss. Finally Gabby Franco was hanging around. I forgot her name, so I didn't want to ask. She is tiny and adorable.  Hop from The Firearms Blog was there talking about Palmetto's M16A1 replica. The "Yankee Marshall" was going on about all kinds of trash with one of Nighthawk's guys. I asked to take his picture and he said it was stalkerish. Don't flatter yourself, sir. I'm just going to make fun of you back at the shop  Overall, a good time, almost thirty miles of walking, and my lungs have suffered greatly in these damn casinos (my travel partner has been gambling incessantly in our off time). Ultimately it was my first time out representing my shop in trying to make things happen for us and I don't get paid enough for this trash. I wish I had more time to check everything out. | ||

I had a revelation this morning seeing a picture from back in the day. My cell phone came along while I wasn't carrying a 1911 at the 3 o'clock. I got used to keeping the phone at my 3 easy as pie. What does the old picture have to do with this? Well, in the pic is part of my load out from when I carried full auto every day. Notice where the coms were kept on my belt? Correct!, not at 3 o'clock. And on a regular day, when I had a GAU-5 or m-79 and m-16, 90 rounds were in a pouch by the phone, because 3 o'clock was for a holster with the 60, or open for rotating the long gun off my right shoulder. It may take me a minute to get used to a phone on my left side, but it needs to happen.  | ||

At first it seemed cool to get a free SBR registration during the "amnesty" period...but I already have one registered and am not really interested in another. Having one as a pistol has some perks...such as crossing state lines without paperwork. No loss. Worse comes to worse I'll put a padded buffer tube on it like the old days...but it's a little ridiculous to deem something illegal that has been commonplace for several years. | ||

The bitter truth is Gun Control/Confiscation started after the Civil War when the action arm of the Confederate/Democrat Party, the KKK, feared getting shot while lynching and burning. A legitimate fear, as the NRA was giving gun safety and marksmanship classes in Black churches, for that very reason. The last century has seen the Klan Party being taken over by the Marxists, but they've never given up their core values of racial discrimination and violence. I was just gifted a sporterized Mosin in fair condition. I rescued it from being chopped up and tossed away. It needs a full refinishing and the last inch and a half of rifling has seen better days. The rear sight is also missing. I'll probably refinish it, put a scout mount on it, and give it a new home. | ||
