So, we lost our pug a couple years ago to old age (18). Lost my border this past May, also age (16). Leaving my husky mix Hudson all alone for the first time ever (he's 7). After a few months of being run into every time we stop walking in the house because he's following so close...we've added some new energy to the place:
7 weeks and already every bit of 20 or 25 lbs. Supposed to be an australian shepherd mix, but all I see is pit and/or mastiff. Super sweet, cuddly, needy (still very young), and an absolute ball of energy. She came from the rescue as "Millie"...but I don't see that fitting a B-I-G dog so I've been racking my brain trying to figure out who she is. Has to be a good one - my dogs like to stick around until their teens at least! |

Beautiful Girl, I love her! Congratulations on your new furbaby! I'll have to think on her name. |

I don't think she's going to be obese-big...just a big breed. Looking down on her while she eats, she's got strong rear hips, then a skinny waist, then she widens at the rib cage, then widens even MORE at her front shoulders. She's gonna be a brute. Could be pit; could be bulldog; could be mastiff; could be d) all of the above. We shall see how large she gets - but her footprints on the patio after walking on wet grass, are already the same size as Hudson's footprints! |

She really looks like a sweet pup. Congratulations!!! I like the name Bertha as in Bertha Butt. Does anyone remember that reference? |

Theodora. Empress of the Eastern Roman Empire, wife of Justinian, who codified the Law and had built the Haggia Sofia, one of the wonders of the world. Which has Nordic runes carved in the floor, from Varangian Guard guys, "Halfdad was here" iirc. Theodora & Justinian are the perfect example of folk from "humble beginnings", oldest profession & infantry grunt. By raw talent and clever ambition, rose to rule the Empire. Thus a majestic name for a majestic critter. My buddy named his Great Pyrenees that. Serious Alpha female. I like big dogs. |

Fiona. I always try to make it an easy name to holler, for training. |

Kona. She already recognizes it; it fits her coloring; and I miss coffee!!! She's growing like crazy, already about 3" taller than she was when I got her and she's kicking Hudson's ass all around the yard. I love it. He loves it too - I pick her up, and he will not take his eyes off her at all... |

Kona - I love that name. A both fun and interesting place, I lived there for six months a long while back. You stop drinking coffee, or just Kona Coffee? Really good Hudson gets along with Kona! That doesn't always happen. She's gonna be a beast! And will love you forever! |

Had to give up coffee (caffeine), and alcohol. Damn cardiologist... Well, him...and an irregular heartbeat combined with gravity, that resulted in a high-speed collision between my body and my kitchen floor. But...it's good for the budget! |

Bummer that you can't drink caffeine or enjoy an adult beverage, but I'm glad you're taking care of yourself. I started drinking coffee shortly after I gave up alcohol. 14+ years later, I'm still drinking it. Probably more than I should. I try to balance it out with water and cranberry juice. |

I'm keeping Gatorade and Propel in business. I still drink my decaf daily - taste, aroma, activity...and once in a while I'll have a nip of my singlemalt, because FTW and I want to. But the "out for beers" is over; beer-after-work; yuge margarita (or 3) with dinner; beers in the garage; all gone. Makes me mad sometimes...but anger is a great motivator for my mountain bike rides (26 min ride daily, 5.7 miles) and my rowing machine workouts (1,000M in about 8 minutes; 400 or so calories). Gets the heart rate up! 165 peak; 120 after a 3 min cooldown. Not bad for half a century... |

So..... How is your girl doing? Been wondering how big she's gotten, and how her training is coming along. |

She's good. About 50 lbs at the moment and stubborn as hell. Part puppy, part breed. She 'knows' her name....just chooses to ignore it most times. Eats like a horse. HUGE cuddler. I'll get in my recliner, she'll lay between my legs, on her BACK, front paws in the air, rear paws stretched out totally flat to my ankles (I have a 34" inseam and her head is on my chest). Zero shame. Or, she'll climb in bed and snuggle all night, constant contact. Hudson (my 8 year old husky) is getting...used to her / tired of her constant playing. He digs playing with her...just not necessarily every.waking.moment. So he hides upstairs a lot. But she is learning that inside time is relax-time, and chewing on toys in her bed instead of assaulting the old man constantly. All in all...going very well. Healthy, and always happy - that's the key! |

Good Deal! Glad to hear Kona is doing well and not driving you and Hudson completely crazy... From my experience with Pits and Bullys, it takes a good little while for them to really come into their own. Patience is a must! If she is chewing on her toys, and not the couch you're ahead of the game lol! One Pittie I had years ago had to be put in a kennel when I left because she had separation anxiety and would chew apart an entire room if left loose and unattended. Good that she's a cuddler and loves being with you. My two Pit mixes love to be by my side and want to be in constant contact as well. No shame with my female either. Furbabies are gifts to us as far as I'm concerned. Gifts I'm grateful to have and wouldn't want to live without. |
