What should she get? Had a 01 S3T and put 25K on it. Sold it to buy a Ulysses XT in 09. It has 30K currently. Now that dealers won't even oil change it what should she buy? She's not one to do her own maintenance and I got 2 of my own to maintain. We do mostly longer trips and multi week touring. She's not married to the motor company but if HD had something.. And she wants something somewhat sporty. Girl likes her twisties... Any suggestions? |

I've heard a lot of positive things about the Pan America. I've also heard some good things about the new Nightster, but I haven't ridden either one yet. The Sportster S has no appeal to me whatsoever and I read a review by a Sportster lover who also had no love for it. I keep hoping that the MoFoCo will bring out the Bronx, but I think that's not going to happen. I suggest a Demo ride on both the Pan America and the Nightster. I'm a firm believer in Demo rides. It was a demo ride that sold me on a Buell and it was a Demo ride that turned me off a new Triumph, back in the 90s. It was also a Demo ride that convinced me to buy a new Roadster, back in 2018. I don't believe there are any bad motorcycles, any more. It's just that some work and feel better for the individual than others. The best way to find out which one talks to you is by taking a Demo Ride. Good luck and let us know what she finally decides on. |

The Crusty one makes good points re demo rides. Alternatively...I'm enjoying the Lightning 9 I picked up this year. They're inexpensive at this point and maybe a little Maintenance instruction/garage bonding is in order? Hmmm, t-shirt idea: the couple that wrenches together stays together? And if the lady enjoys the twistys, alternate weekends, I'm on one the 1190's and and can say there is nothing better. |

Check out a Scout FTR. Closest current offering to a tuber that I've ridden yet...and quite a lot of Buell genetics due to Indians design crew... |

My initial suggestion is a decent used UJM. My buddy found a Yamaha 650 Maxim for his wife. Sweet. But that requires you to find, repair, and refurbish an older bike, which was HIS idea of fun, but not in your list. I agree there aren't many lousy bikes today from Japan or England or America. ( I'm skeptical about India and downright hostile about China ) I also worked in QC for years, so I'm both naturally and trained in being critical. So... Have her sit on whatever... Test ride if at all possible. Fit is important. Anecdotally, a female friend bought herself a Honda Shadow 750. Loved it, and rode it all over. I thought it a pig in hand!ing at slow speed, but a decent cruiser with enough power on the road. |

The Yamaha triples--think 900 cc--are getting rave reviews. Lots of torque and very sporty. If you're flush with cash, the mid-size BMW twins are nice looking as well, but the GS model may be too tall for your lady. The newest iteration of the VStrom 650 is great do-it-all bike that will be reliable as a framing hammer and a lot of fun to ride. I have an'09 that I put over 60K on riding from OH to FL/NC/GA and a couple trips to TX/NM/AZ/NV/CO/UT. Pretty good handling in the twisties and enough go-juice to run 80-85 MPH all day on the xway. |

I would imagine there has to be some independent MC shops that would perform the maintenance on the Uly, a couple of oil changes a year shouldn't be a big deal. There are so many good bikes these days, as said, take her to a multi line dealer and let her bounce on bikes shes interested in. Pretty much none of the bikes out there will have the low end Uly torque, and where the other bikes start really going is where the Uly goes flat, she'll have to learn a new way to ride. |

The pan is probably gonna be to big for her but I'll have her sit on one. May have her check out the Indian since they are next door to hd. She has said she liked the triumphs. Will check out the Yamaha's too. Gonna ride up to the brainerd races at months end and we'll chat about bike things. (Message edited by s3ters on July 07, 2022) |

I'm surprised St Paul Harley won't work on it. I got my '07 there, but then again I moved to Virginia 9 years ago. |
