I stopped by my local power sports dealer yesterday and they had a brand new 2022 Honda CRF300L Rally on the show room floor. They have not had any Honda bikes on the floor for months now. The CRF300L, and Rally are getting great reviews and some consider it the GOAT of dual sports. I asked the salesman if it was sold and he said no. He said there was a deposit on it but when it finally arrived, they backed out. I have been thinking of buying a CRF300L Rally and could pull it off, but at this point, I'm having doubts about the economy as well. Is this the canary in the coal mine regarding the economy? Is the motorcycle industry "covid" boom over? Is the whole boom over? |

No way to tell, except that inflation won't stop soon, what with the active wars going on and the possibility of a Big One in the Pacific. Plus of course the cause of inflation being the "Government" printing money with nothing to back it. So no matter what you want to own, it is probably going to cost more, later, unless there's a big Depression, and everything changes. My free & worth it, advice is buy the things you want, because the money is going to be worth less next month. And the things, toys, cars, bikes, will have at least the value to you that you have & can use them. taken to extremes this advice is horrible and leads to you having lots of junk and being broke. Welcome to life. As far as "booms" being over? It's the peak & possible end of the Golden Age of motor vehicles. Both peak and end may be wrong! But no matter if it's a Hellcat or a CFR300L, it might not exist, or be legal to buy next year. OR things could change for the better, and you wasted your money on a frivolous toy. I say, go for the frivolous toy & enjoy life before.... ( Insert apocalypse of your choice here ) |

You can be the male version of Itchy Boots. Maybe ride to Alaska too It's funny that her 300 is considered a BIG bike down in Honduras! By all means don't let your life be guided by fear. I've missed opportunities because I was too cautious. If the crap hits the spinning blades it's going to get all over all of us! |

buy the things you want, because the money is going to be worth less next month ...and the whatever-it-is will be harder to get as time goes by... They're talking FOOD shortages - stock up now, folks. If FOOD goes short, all hell will break loose! |

PULL the trigger on that bike! You only live this life once... that IS a fantastic machine! Or, do like RD and go get a Royal Enfield. He's already assimilated it into his collective consciousness- like Vern, fixin' all the fixes, fixin it up better than the Indians building it AND likely that Honda. I could easily be swayed to find, maybe trade my PC800 for a D/S, some big-bore single, thump back these gas prices. That big Suzuki S40 single can be cafe'ed, BTW. But... I do loves me my Jane Honda. Choices... |

Go through a justification list like I do Do you like it? Do you need it? Can you afford it? Would you regret buying it? Would you regret not buying it? I’d say DO IT, You can always sell it! |

I recently got back into "dirt bikes" and road legal enduros specifically. Mostly cause of where they can take me- thats remote places with great views and making memorable times seeing areas of the country that most dream of. YOLO |

It's funny that her 300 is considered a BIG bike down in Honduras! In the 80s I lived in England. A 250 was considered large when I was there. The guys on 50CCs wore full leathers. I lucked into a Kawasaki 750 LTD for $300 and was king of the heard for a while. |

Doesn't look bad...though I prefer the big bores. I went to a multi brand Powersports dealer and they had a bunch of used other brand bikes and overpriced go carts and UTV's. It's a bit weird out there. The end of the we world is always one step away, they say. So what? |

Buddy of mine just bought the 450. Said the suspension was the reason, not the power. For what it’s worth. |

Somewhat related... I think it's smart to buy low, well high. But I don't have stocks, where that is a mantra. But buy boats, bikes, summer stuff, in fall. Odds are I'll never sell anything, especially when the price is high. Who sells his summer toys in spring? ( broke folk and smart guys ) I'm rather impressed by Itchy Boots and the Honda CRF300L. But I'm not looking for a dirt bike, I doubt I could get my leg over. Pity, because last week my buddy on his '80 Yamaha XS1100 & I went for a nice ride up in the hills. ( cue banjo music ) I'm on Buttercup shod with Dunlop Q2 tires, but I don't mind a nice seasonal use dirt/gravel road taken with a touch of skill ( wish I had some ) and a mellow pace. It's "leaf season" and quite the view in western NY. He led us to lost... Have to say it's nice to know the adrenal gland still works. A steep gravel downhill reacquainted me with my rear brake. Steep & rough enough to be "interesting" on that 300 Honda. ( Gran Prix geometry and racing rain tires were... Challenging ) But, hey, survived that and suggested some asphalt... I don't know where we are, so kept following him. ( nope, he was lost too. ) Five minutes later, I stop looking down a view normally seen in National Geographic articles. A gravel road, descending and turning out of sight. A tunnel of gorgeous yellow and red trees, the hidden entrance to Brigadoon or Hobbiton, or Smaug's cave. Making it even prettier was the leaves at fall peak colors, lining the path, and filling in from the edges until fully hiding the trail as it curved into the depths of a no doubt incredible place with no cell or GPS signal. But possibly ogres. Nope. Nope. Nope. Lovely shaded gullies full of slippery leaves. On my mountain bike I'd be excited. The mystery! The challenge! But I can pick up my bicycle after sliding half off a cliff, and carry it to someplace with traction. A Cyclone? Not so much. Insert Danny Glover quote. |

I forgot about this thread. Two months ago I put a down payment on a rally. They’re saying it will probably be January before it gets in. I spent four days on a husky 510 in the mountains of northern Idaho in August. Ride, camp, ride, repeat. Fell in love with riding all over again. |

Just dropped the penny on a used Rans F5 recumbent bicycle. Terrifying thing. I looked at a few trikes, Cattrikes and Ice the Terra, electric boost & pure pedal power. Pretty sure I'll succumb soon on one. But I'm not quite ready to give up on 2 wheels. So tried a variety, & found the one I lusted after, a short wheelbase 700c Bachetta Corso, just didn't fit. The Bicycle Man in Alfred Station, ( shameless plug ) also had the Rans, but it runs 650c tires, and I thought unobtainable, but checking,I can still get Continentals, so today I tried it. Another short wheelbase, steep head angle, bicycle. Scary quick turning, and getting rolling is challenging, but with a 3x9 drive train it spins uphill, ok. ( recumbent require wide range gears because you can't stand up and hammer. Have to spin for power. ) I anticipate a learning curve and probably different bars, before I get comfortable, but that's the idea, to build back muscle memory and strength/endurance without beating up the ti knees. Wish me luck, this thing is terrifying doing 30 downhill. Not Squirrelly, just incredibly quick. And really skinny tires... https://bicycleman.com/used-rans-force-5-red/ |

I've started playing on a fixie again and set up the spin bike behind my chair in the office. I can surf while spinning. On the Himalayan Owners Forum on Facebook there is a 2019 Himalayan, $3,100, New Hartford, CT. with 4,100 miles on the clock. |

Oh, I had to resist a Terra Trike with a Bosch electric middrive and an Enviolo rear hub. $4k. 100 miles. It's hard to resist the cool toys sometimes. I may need to buy an Enviolo hub, it was sweet. ( CVT ) really low effort shifting. |
