Been along time since I posted on BWB, after spinning through a few threads I realized I do miss it. That said I'll be checking in more often now. On to the question. Go Windward (Loren) and is SO used to have a business doing custom seat work. Their website was motorbikesaddles.com Unfortunately it's now gone. I haven't seen anything posted by him for a long time either. Does anyone know what happened to them? Nothing bad I hope, they were neat folks. I had a student this weekend talking about hating the seat on her HD, I told her I would check into Loren's shop as I'd seen his work and was very impressed. I still see a lot of familiar old names here, nice to see for sure. Brad |

Hi Brad; welcome back to Badweb. I’m not familiar with motorbike saddles, but I did find an old post of mine with links to several custom seat outfits. The post is several years old so some of these may be out of business as well: ——————————— I've had a couple of seats reworked by Sargent; they do quality work for a reasonable price. Sargent is very good at doing what you ask them to do to your seat. I had excellent results with one seat but another didn't turn out so well. The work was OK, it's just that the comfort improvement was nil. I also found out the "atomic foam" they offer provides a better seating surface but it also conducts heat MUCH better than the stock foam (this was on a Buell S3). That might be a problem on a Uly. If you've got the money, there are several places that will custom-alter your seat based on photos and measurements you send them. Some of them will even do it while you wait if you're located close enough to ride in and make an appointment ahead of time. Here are a few I know of: http://www.billmayersaddles.com/ http://www.day-long.com/ http://www.richscustomseats.com/ http://www.ceebaileys.com/seats/seatservmain.html http://www.rickmayercycle.com/ I have no personal interest or experience with any of these guys, just passing along the info. ———————- Addition to my old post: This guy has done custom seats for EBR’s in the last few years and people seem to be very happy with his work. http://www.renazco.com/ |

Hugh, thanks for the info! I'll pass this along verbatim to my student if you don't mind. |

I would second, "Sargents". They recently re-worked a 20yo Triumph saddle for me. The workmanship was first rate and the seat itself is much more comfortable than the original. They are local to me so I discussed my requirements in person with them. However, their website is comprehensive and they are happy to discuss via "phone" if necessary. The total cost was very reasonable. As always, YMMV. Chris C |

Mark G and a few other peeps I know have worked up a "Ride and Fly" seat cover... been wanting to set one up for Jane Honda. Mark seemed to love his, and they look dang cool to boot. My first PC800 had a Corbin... might try to grab one of those, but, gotta moo out some moolah there... the Ride and Fly was well priced, IIRC. |

I finally got a chance to check the links from my old post that I reposted above. Looks like Bill Mayer is out, Cee Baileys now only makes aircraft parts(?), and Rick Mayer is out. Russell Day-long Seats are well known among Iron Butt riders. Here’s the link to Sargent: https://www.sargentcycle.com/ A google search will turn up quite a few more suppliers, but I don’t know anything about them. |

Hi Brad! What kind of H-D is she riding? I've been putting miles on Sportsters for the past few years. There's an Ironbutt competitor on the XL Forum (Parrothead) who swears by a Mustang Vintage Wide saddle. I tried one and it was OK; but I prefer a Sundowner from the MoFoCo. Everybody has different needs and the seat that's perfect for one person will be flat horrible for another. Back in 2006 when the Ulysses first came out, a lot of people loved the tall seat. I was much more comfortable with the Low seat. Then, in 2007, the low seat was changed; it moved the rider back an inch or two. That made a huge difference in comfort. I still preferred the '06 Low seat, while a lot of folks loved the '07. I suggest she try different seats out. Many H-D stealerships have a setup where you can demo a seat right there in the shop. |
