There's an old joke about Scandahovians and where they settled in the Americas. After searching far and wide they found places where the weather sucked as much as back home. That's why you find them in the Northern Great Plains and Great Lakes zones. Rebels go South. Away from snowmobile country. In contrast the Irish and Scots settled in the Eastern mountain lands. Rebels go West. I Used to do Winter sports. Skiing, mostly, I was adult & set in my ways when snowboards came out. I can & have boarded, but mostly watched in amusement as the "elite Ski Establishment" hated on the boarders. I was the low class high school & college ski bum with Scotchguard on Levis and a jacket, not the rich kids with modern synthetic suits. So their irritation at boarders distracted them from mocking me, somewhat. Today... Winter is for the young and healthy. Rich helps. I went ski shopping last winter, and unholy flakes! the prices are high. |

You can find a swedish community in Rockford Illinois because that was all the further the train tracks went. As a kid I lived in Westfield, Indiana. Noblesville was 7 miles east of there and had the hospital I was birthed in. We called it Nobletucky. Story went like this. I was told that people heading to Michigan from Kentucky for jobs, ran out of gas there. A lot of Westfield turned into on ramps and off ramps. Noblesville, just far enough away grew into a huge community and became upscale while Westfield became over ran with main corridor type hospitals and industries. Where we launched home made rockets, shot guns, camped, etc. when I was growing up is all gone. I was told when I went into the military that you can never go home and I used to get something in my eyes driving through there. I graduated 6th grade in East Tennessee, same thing. It's just the way of the world. (Message edited by OurDee on January 28, 2022) |

If you have to live in it, EMBRACE IT!!! Ski shoeing and rabbit hunting behind the hood last weekend, BEAUTIFUL!!!
In case you're wondering what ski shoes are, Julie wearing hers last year when we first got them. They're basically a hybrid of snowshoes and cross-country skis (free heel with regular boots).
Fun and great exercise! |

... got home from work @1130ish, actually slid into the driveway here. Flash bang blizzard, I guess... driving conditions got sketchier as I got closer to home. Heading to the hot-tub very soon, then Z. Pics are from a plate I'd left outside, the nose is an immature Apocalypse Scorpion pepper. Also looking for Spring, sad I can't jump-start it like I've done for a good redneck recently with my Halo box... I'd carried it in Jane's buttocks on my last cold ride through Vonore. Funnin' times. |
