On a similar note... remind me of that woman who left her ginormous estate to her cat, in New York City... I always scratched my head over THAT one. Always will, I guess. |

When I had to put down my last German Shepherd, Chief I didn't know how to get past the grief. I remember laying on the vet's exam room floor holding Chief and crying like a baby. Chief got me through a horrible time in my life. I was recently divorced, had moved away from family and friends for a contract job that was supposed to last a year but only lasted 3 months. I hadn't planned on getting a dog but somehow Chief came into my life after a visit to a local shelter. He was on the euthanasia list and I just couldn't let that happen. It was the best decision I made in years. He quickly became my best friend. I was blessed enough to have him 10 years. Will Rogers said it best: "If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go." |

Yeah, our Hawaiian vacation fund went to saving our fur baby's life. Totally worth it, especially in light of how the rest of the year turned out. |

Dammit Jaime. Fur or fluff. Why would we waste our money on anything... else? Again... we should ride together in the year 2022. Let me know, and you will have accommodations. |

Now... we are all adjusting. Weird idea: Should I now have play dates for Rocky? M won't allow another dog- she wants the freedom to travel. With D'Ogee, he and Rocky were always buddies, brothers, but they never really played with one another. Basenjis are damn strange dogs, atypical... when I named my first one Loki, yep, that did fit. Rocky would certainly LOVE a play buddy. The dog park... yeah. We have many, and several nice ones. In the new year, maybe we will try out my old digs, Sequoyah Hills Park. I miss living there (rented...), and the dang park is flat beautiful. Right next to the river. I trained Loki to run off-leash there... and boy did he run. A spectacle to behold. C'mon 2022. |

Watching the new year’s Twilight Zone marathon and just saw the episode of the old man and his coonhound looking for heaven. It’s The Hunt. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunt_(The_Twilight_Zone) “Anyplace too high falutin for my dog is too high falutin for me!” Z |

Wow! I loves me some Twilight Zone. The reboot TZ (color) had a GREAT episode where a sadistic newspaper restaurant reviewer gets his comeuppance. Need to see THAT one again!! Thanks, Z. Now... I have NOT ever seen THIS film. A Basenji is the dog star. Weirdly enough, as I've know of it for decades now. A neighbor (the one with Daisy, Rocky's maybe play-date girl) just yesterday reminded me of it, like everyone else says it's a great movie. I'll be ready for that flick one of these days. Not yet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good-bye,_My_Lady_(film) (Message edited by 86129squids on January 02, 2022) |

Thank you. I don't really know what I would've done when my wife passed away had I not had my cat to keep me company and give me a reason to get up every morning. Everybody seems to think cats are aloof and only care about food and being fed. Those of us who are actually owned by cats know better. |

Hah! Methinks you may be correct, Jaime My dear sis has two cats very dear to her. I have lived with cats- in my youth I was allergic, as was my sister. She grew out of the allergy as she got older, me too. I like kittehs, even went to look after the 4 cats belonging to the husband/wife heads of our neighborhood associationa as they traveled earlier this month. Two were sociable, the other two were not to be seen in general. I've been to a cat show or two back in the day, I'd LOVE to get a Maine Coon someday. Or... there are too many pretty ones. A manx? I've an acquaintance who has, IIRC, an ocelot. Certainly a Hemingway kitteh, and a shot of good Cuban rum maybe. Even birds though. Still wanting to head to the parrot rescue place in Hermitage TN. Hope they are staying warm in this dang weird cold snap overnite... I do love critters. Oh!! On ABC last nite, there was a great "nature" show, but with killer funny voice-overs. I'd watch it again. Hilarity. Well, Rocky's out of bed AGAIN. He paces until we are all in, or if he senses something amiss, or a critter outside. We think that maybe me shoving pills down his throat has given him a sore throat lately... he's been refusing hard food, even threats, but will take soft foods/treats. Gotta be more careful here, especially with our precious boy. Yee and ha. Rest well with your critters... it'll be a three dog night here. |

One more cat-tale... I lived years ago with a brilliant woman who had two cats. One was a black cat, and a great one- very well behaved cat, fastidious, 0 problem cat. The other, she had "inherited" from her former boyfriend. THIS cat had all kinds of problems, bad health, weirdness, and regularly it would have irregularities all over the house. Once I put some of the Advantix stuff on its shoulders... it was like I'd turned on a faucet in its mouth, started drooling uncontrollably. I've forgotten its name... but I ended up calling it Cat A$$. Yep. One day I came into the den, saw my fave, dayum fugly whole head Halloween mask on the floor. ???... why? I then picked it up. Cat A$$ smegma underneath. WTF?!?!? Took me a while to figure, but apparently Cat Aiss had done its thing, and then Shadow, seeing it, later, had dragged my mask over to cover it!!! I'm still amazed at all that.... TRUE story. OK then. Gnite and sweet dreams now. |

And... thank you brother Steve for sayin. Still working through it... getting to the 2nd/3rd person referrals as I speak of it all now. No closure for a while though, getting there quicker than I'd expected... hopefully. |

Got a bittersweet, sweet note today from our vet clinic, a condolences note regarding D'Ogee's passing. A class act, all the women and the doctors at this veterinary hospital. I was quite touched by this, and of course it threw me into a bit of melancholy. Oh well. Rocky seems to be adjusting- of course, becoming more of a PITA when it comes meds time for him now. Hoping to get him out for more walks and truck rides going on from here. D'Ogee's absence is certainly palpable. DANG if I'm not ready for Spring and some warmer weather... and hopefully a trip down to see a bunch of loons in north GA. It'd be good medicine for me, fo sho. Although we ostensibly get together for the riding... I really just love the cameraderie. Oh, yeah, and the 'cue too. Mike's knowledge of EVERY cool road in the region is the cherry on top. And heck, I've yet to see Eric's new digs, just down from Jim's! Have a great/safe weekend, all. |

Jack was the bestest cat I'd ever met. He was my first pet as an adult and saw me through a few bad relationships/engagements, discovering Buells, a failed marriage, my dad dying, bankruptcy, etc, but never got my meet his 'brother' (my human child) before he had to be put to sleep. I hung on too long. He had renal failure and I kept him going with diet changes and meds. His joints popped and cracker when I picked him up and he purred constantly. When it came time to put him to sleep, I cried for an hour at the vets office. I had him before we had smart phones and were too involved in social media. I had one mug that got broken a while ago and another that I cherished because it was a picture of him in his prime. This hit too close to home this week. We had a faucet leak and bought a nice Kohler, but I've been down for two weeks between Covid/flu that turned into bronchitis and a sinus infection. Monday night a plumber came out and left to get parts. He never came back and left us with shut off water and by the time we realized that he wasn't coming back (never responded or replied to texts and still hasn't), it was too late to get parts. The following morning I dragged my sick self to the store to get parts. The new house is ALL PEX, which required new tools that I didn't have before. I got it all done in 20 minutes with the right stuff, and was letting the water run to make sure everything worked fine. I opened the cabinet and a mug fell out. Not just any mug, my last Jack mug. I glued it and put it in the cabinet with stuff from family members we miss, but it was nice seeing him when I made my coffee.

You're like me in that aspect, Thump- I've too many coffee mugs, and too many of them sentimental to me. Ahhh, the wonders of cyanoacrylate! I'm about to glue some cold weather fingertip splits here in a bit... talk about owie! Yeah... these critters. I just shoved Rocky's 3 morning pills down his gullet a while ago. Then a mid-afternoon one, then 4 this evening. Unlike ALL dogs I've ever known, he's the most finicky little turd I've EVAAAR seen. We swear he MUST'VE been a food taster for King Charles or Emperor Claudius way back in the day. (Yeah, I Wiki'ed it.) But... even though it's all that work and not insignificant moolahs to keep "Mr. Flinchy" away... our lil' guy Rocky is every bit worth it. When HE goes... ohhhh noes. Jack the kitteh looks a little like my sis' first cat, Zach. He was also a cool cat. One thing I've always loved about cats is every one's uniqueness, both in their aesthetic and their spirit. M has sworn that she won't want another 4 legged critter after Rocky walks the Rainbow Bridge. I'm not at all as convinced as she. We WILL have a couple of cockatiels, if nothing else. Fish I always love to have around, but they're rally furniture unless you get the right kind of saltwater fish, which to me is too much $$$ and work. Might go out and get another outdoor bird feeder today. Found that our local discount box has a Perky Pet feeder for $10, normally $40, that takes 3 different types of seed! Even comes with its own pole. And, Homie Depot has a pallet of 20# GOOD seed out back in the cold, discounted from $20 to $5!!! I already went and got 2 more bags last night on Jane Honda. Like our beloved Betty White, I love dang near any critter. I still say she was called to Heaven because St. Francis needed the help. |

Thumper, Your photo reminds me of a sweatshirt my late wife got me for Christmas a few years back. It says: "If it's not a tuxedo, it's JUST a cat." The first cat we ever had was a tuxedo. He was a real little character and in many ways my Harry is very much like him. Very talkative, very playful, and LOVES his family. The one exception was that Cleo (our first tuxie) was afraid of strangers and would hide when we had company. One thing Harry is NOT, is "shy." Once Cleo got to know our friends, he was fine... but if a complete stranger should come knocking, he was gone like the wind. |

Here's a funny... my sis last week was on a zoom meeting doing a presentation last week, a big ole important one, with nationwide participants. She knew to keep one cat out of the room as he wants to jump on the desk anytime. The other is usually no problem, unless he wants outside. Well, as the meeting was underway, of course the kitteh in the room starts bellowing, to tell her he wants out. She throws a shoe or something appropriate at cat. Kitteh won't shut up, so she throws kitteh out of room. Then... of course both kittehs start fighting. The bully/dominant one is a nasty fighter... while she's still trying to do the zoom meeting, she hears screaming like never before, envisions the deathly hallows somewhere outside the office room! Has to rush out of meeting, startle and break up the flying fur and screaming. Of course, once she finishes her meeting, kittehz are cuddled up with one another, brothers yet again. Yee and haa! If it'd been me, I'd have some serious water cannon artillery ready, no carpets.
