M and I have need of a reliable shipping service to some friends who live in Colombia. A nice, crocheted wall hanging... whole package weighs 1# 9 oz. I've been quoted anywhere from $175 to $350... and dammit! I get it that international shipping aint cheap, but WT and F me if I'll wanna pay THAT much.

These friends have assured us that whatever we ship WILL be stolen unless it is a trackable package via Fedex, UPS, or DHL. So far my low number is FedEx at $175, high was UPS or something yesterday at $350. Marcia found this outfit, ParcelMonkey, and I'm sorely tempted to use them for a Santa Claus proxy.

What say youn's? Shoot me some opinions here. Thanks in advance. : )

My bro in law spends the winter in Colombia and they send things down there from the US. I've sent him an email asking for a recommendation. I'll let you know.

Gots me some dang good Aldi sourced Peruvian coffee on... back at this for a bit. Thanks Duc! Again and again, the BW remains a great resource for whatever "ails" ya. I still need to send Blake a few simoleons... also WDVX for that matter.

The option I'm looking at most had 1663 5 star reviews, apparently all I have to do is input my CC#, print a label and such, then drop off at my local UPS store. Pretty dang cool. I'll hang back a bit and wait to hear back from you, Duc, and then pull the trigger on my best option by Monday.

These friends of ours down in Colombia... I met them here at the Alcoa Wal-Mart! I was literally taxiing out with a full load on the Honda, they were taxiing in on a barn find GL1200 Aspencade that had been restored to new or better than new condition...! David, and Gloria, his beautiful native Colombian wife. She 100% looks like my wife's sister, what with Marcia being Dominican. My wife was the ONE person with whom Gloria could have a conversation with, in the US of A, in her native tongue! Top it all off, David had met her after retiring to Colombia... after a storied career as the mechanic, steward and Captain of a small ship serving the royals. Of the UK. He is native Zimbabwean. We ended up spending every other day with them the following week... a WILD time. A WILD time indeed, we did have. Especially when the fuel pump died on the GL1200. ErrmmaaaghEERD...
that'll be another essay...!!! He had to ship the dang Goldwing back to Colombia... that was another whole string of hellish problems he had to deal with. [Edit: He did fix the fuel pump here, with of all things an Edelbrock unit!! Sano install to boot!] At least he had his Royal Enfield back home to ride when he and Gloria made it back.

Not much help:

"I don't have experience with small packages. and assuming that this person wants to send by air, the first places I would look would be FedEx, UPS and even USPS. FedEx has a large presence here, UPS less. but they both coordinate with local shippers to deliver door to door which is a big plus. I would expect an air package even under 2 lbs, not to be cheap."

Hey buddy, thanks anyhoo. I'll go ParcelMonkey, heck, they even have $100 coverage included and optional $500 if I wanna. I'll post up as to how things work out!

In the meantime, keep on the $.02 folks as you can. I always appreciate you guys. Like any fandamily, we may argue, but we get along pretty dang good if you ask me. ; )
