Changed my mind on using the "Action Packer" by Rubbermaid. I ordered a black aluminum box to bolt down back there. It will be lighter lower and more secure. I can always strap the Action Packer on top of it if I need more dry storage. The box will give me 4x the volume of one of my paniers. About 16 gallons. I'll rivet footman loops on the top of the box with washers under the lid. I may go to a 12" wheel and tire at a later date for a higher than "J" speed rating.
I just laid my Buell down too. The highway foot peg protected the exhaust header from scratches. The highway foot peg has a few scratches and the aluminum bracket is intact.
I already have 8 gallons on board and get 66 MPG highway. I'll have 10.5 on board when the trailer is done. It will still be Iron-butt legal for fuel capacity with a 693 mile range between gas stations. That tanker trailer above looks like Alaska distance. I'll be able to go to Two's with out stopping at a gas station on the himalayan.
I did the math on the spare bearings I ordered for the rear trailer wheel today. I'm good at over four times my loaded trailer weight for 523.5 MPH. Too bad the tire has a J speed rating (62). I also ordered 2 tubes, a replacement and spare.
Right after I posted the aluminum box picture the other day, the firm that can't manage their inventory canceled my order. I went with another firm and have a shiney one on the way now.

Since last Thanksgiving I have lost 41 pounds. That is only about a tenth of a pound per day. I have learned more about weight loss this time through. I converted the fat into aproximately 36 pounds of carbon dioxide and breathed it out while the rest of the weight was excreted as water. I fixed my A1C level. Chromium Picolinate and Ceylon Cinnamon each day. I cut out sugar and now take my coffee BLACK. I don't skip breakfast. I quit bread and pasta too. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I feel good. My goal is still 18 pounds away. When I see my doctor next month we are going to see if I can get off or reduce any of my meds. I saw the CPAP doctor the other day and asked when I get to quit using it. She said I don't. I then said, "So, you are not going to cure me?" I do not plan on living with a pump. With the weight loss, I have turned the pump down 6 centimeters of water. Canceled the ramp but kept the auto-on/off. The lighter I get the less I need.
22 sit-ups today. Down to 176.2 after the turkey. I have one Christmas decoration to add to the yard. I will try to get a lap in on the bicycle after that. Logging my intake has put me back on track. Like stopping smoking tobacco, it is about self control. There was a time when I had ballooned to over 135 after I quit smoking back in 84. I kept feeling better every year for 10 years. One day while talking to myself and ask to repeat what I said, cause I wasn't listening, I told myself that, "If I could quit smoking, I could quit eating." Every time I had a hunger twinge I took a swig of grapefruit juice. (I have never liked grapefruit juice) It was like electric shock therapy. My loss now has to do with a keto type diet and coffee. (I like coffee) I quit playing mind games with myself.
It has cooled off here and so has my garage. I have work to do on the trailer but need to order a piece of aluminum for the rear deck on it. Pay day is tomorrow. It will get ordered on Wednesday, along with blood work and BMV work. (a title, registration, and plates)
Hey! RD, I have a special RQ for you. I've been wanting to get some "Mick-O-Pegs" for the PC800. The folks who made them no longer make them. I know a few guys around here who could very well make them, but... they aint my Mad Scientist buddy, you are... !
Pretty dang cool stuff. Folks who have these on their bike swear by them. I could certainly use a pair. Just let me know how tricky it would be to get these done... I've yet to find the design sketches. Not asking you to make them per se, but... ? If you could eventually get around to it, I'd definitely offer recompense for your work!
Brad, I don't want another project at this time. I suggest you put on a simple set of pegs. Complicated spring loaded stuff could explain why they aren't still in business. My rule of thumb is KISS. I treat projects like writing poems. Design stuff short and easy. I am working on trailer 2.0 now. It will require designed parts as opposed to adapted pieces. The central piece will be a cage that a 24 gallon Action Packer drops into. Hitch will bolt to one end of the cage and rear suspension components will bolt directly to the other end. The hitch on the bike will bolt to the pannier frame mounts, instead of the swing-arm.
Yeah... NBD, figured I'd ask. If you get around to looking at their website... pretty cool stuff for my bike and for the GL's as well. I'll shoot another FB message out to the PC group there. Looking forward to your 2.0 project trailer build... so far your beta's have been popcorn-worthy! Plus you are cooking the nomnom nicely too... really liked those smushburgers! M would LOVE those... she likes everything well-done. Oh well...
Keep on keepin on, RD. I/we get great vicarious joys here on your lucky thread. Better than most fortune cookies!
I got the gates put together on my fence. I have not installed hinges yet. I will attempt to use some heavy duty swing set hardware for hinges tomorrow. All but 2 4x4s 8' long were free. I lost all the carbide teeth on a saw blade finding screws hidden in the reclaimed deck wood.
Tomorrow the vampires will test my blood, BMV may title my trailer, I'll order the last piece of aluminum for it, so there will be a place to mount the plate, then I'll replace lights in the Blow-men in the front yard.
In between the plate and box there is an 1/8" x 12" x 18" sheet of aluminum that will mount where that 3" x 12" piece is sitting now. The angle aluminum on the back of the plate will bolt to the end of it. The tail light has running, stop, L & R turn, and white plate light in it. It is all low enough that you can still see the rear lighting on the bike.
I plan on running the wiring inside a piece of PEX. That's what I run aux. power wires in under my car.
If Indiana wants to make me run a full size trailer plate, I wish they would let me mount it to replace the fender.
Trailer weight will be 65 pounds empty. I plan on hauling about 60 pounds in it. Curb weight of the Himalayan is 401 to 438 pounds. That puts my loaded trailer at less than 1/3 of the bikes weight. That was my goal. I ordered some 6 conductor 22 gauge shielded cable for the harness tonight. I need 5 conductors for my tail light. I'll run the black and white wire in parallel to safely have capacity for the ground. The remaining will be used; brown=tail, red=brake, green=right turn, and blue=left turn.
I am loving the Himalayan. I took Lil Red out for a ride today. I'm getting old and the Himalayan is comfortable. I may have came up with a name for it, "Good Guy".
I am waiting on the piece for the rear deck where the plate and tail light mount, and the wire for my harness. I decided to run the trailer around in my neighborhood for a test spin. Hardly notice it back there. Here is the axle pivot point:
I still plan on mounting a pivot point on the bike frame in place of the pivot point on the rear axle on the bike. In the mean time I will order spare wheel bearings for the Himalayan.
