My wife and I learned that she has shingles. On her face, eyebrow, scalp... just started an antiviral regimen.

Ideas on how to help her. I'll be going to get my anti-shit on a shingle vaccine ASAP/STAT.

Craptastic... of COURSE it kicks in on Halloween.

Happy Dia De Los Muertos. : (

I get it periodically on my left cheek. It never gets too terrible and it’s about the size of a smeared quarter.

I take the antivirals and they do their thing. I have had it less and less frequently as I got my blood sugar under control. I had an a!c of 15.9 at it’s peak.

Though I’m at risk and diabetic, they will not allow me to get the vaccine.

If all else checks out, ie, good health, blood sugar being normal, etc. Get through this outbreak, get the vaccine and be prepared for it to pop up at stressful times.

For me, the worst part was the famciclovir. I was single and the pharmacist with a cute girl my sister went to school with, filling prescription for herpes…

I'm trying to help M manage it, 13 hours in from her diagnosis. I know next to nothing about this disease, other than the pharma commercials dreck.

Thanks for that, Thump. The historical reference was great... sorry you didn't thump that. ")

A1C 15.9?? yee. Keep that down! Mine is @ 6-7 last time I had it checked. Remember, this is about my lady, not me.

Brad- I had a couple of relatives who had it. They found that arnica gel helped a lot. It appears to be sold as a homeopathic treatment for arthritis but some people swear by it for relieving shingles pain.

The cheek on my face, left, right under my eyeball.

Squids, I was just pointing out my experience. Many things like this are opportunistic and wait until your immune system is weakened or pre-occupied. High blood sugar can contribute to it.

A1c last time was 6.3 or so and the outbreaks have been much less frequent once the blood sugar was controlled.

Some doctors will do a low dose antiviral to suppress it.

Thanks again, Thump, and Hugh. Seems this stuff can hit about any part of the body. I just got back from getting my Shingrix vaccine... my pharmacist said to expect a somewhat crappy day tomorrow. She's now on those horse pills, Valtrex, now... screws up her taste buds, so, yet another flavor of crapola cupcake.

Arnica... it apparently can raise blood pressure and affect heart rhythm, so she refuses that. She's watching that Adam Sandler flick where he has a twin sister... sounds pretty funny, which she needs about now.

"Opportunistic"... yes. She's been fighting a bad ear infection, allergies, and certainly other stressors. I'm doing my best to not be one of them. Getting ready to do a air fryer fish fry, with tilapia and catfish later, onion rings as a side, with whatever else.

Wish us luck... again, I always appreciate all you guys chiming in when the shiznit flies, to help. On another thread, I promised to throw Blake some bucks... this is one of the countless reasons why. I'll certainly get around to that, once I get through my own crap around here in Mur-vil. : )

Hope to ride with you guys in the coming new year, for sure! Thanks again, keep the suggestions coming.
