I'm planning to be in New England the week of July 20th. Would anybody want to meet at the Troy Dinosaur on Sunday, the 25th for lunch? (Message edited by Crusty on June 28, 2021) |

I'll second that, Jaime. Ride out to that lunch! Stay social!! Isolation is a real risk for men. I'm glad to see you trying to look to the future. (Message edited by buellerxt on June 28, 2021) |

... saw these guys this past Friday. Had a parking lot full of BBQ rigs. Was told that they were there only to compete, NOT to sell or even give samples to the public. That seemed a bit esoteric. My noodle a bit cooked on that. There was only one truck selling, I guess that's the way things are done... ?

Keeping an eye on the forecast but there's a good chance I'll be coming up via automobile unless things change... |

You want nice weather? I just won't go. Then it'll be sunny with perfect temps. It was flat pouring, so I didn't go to the Meet&Eat Meat. The rain stopped and the sun came out. I rode to Mt. Vernon, IL so I could go to the DuQuoin Mile. That was another washout. I'm going to the Dinosaur, so I bet it'll be another deluge. Well; it won't be the first time I got soaked coming back from the Dinosaur in Troy; both Jim (Damnut) and I got soaked a few years ago. I'm just sorry that the Gentleman's Express won't be at her prettiest. Oh well... |

I know just what you mean. Last weekend my club planned a ride up to the New England Motorcycle Museum. The forecast was calling for potential severe thunderstorms with gusting wind and small hail, so I bailed out. The day turned out to be hot and sunny without a speck of precipitation. Not sure what it'll mean if we BOTH show up in Troy on Sunday... |

Heading out the door. It looks like the rain will be over by the time I get there, so I MIGHT have a dry ride back. It will be really good to see everybody! |

Hey!! I just put on rotisserie a 7.6# Boston Butt, which M had seasoned expertly yesterday- even has homegrown elephant garlic! Smoke from peach and apple wood going as I type. We're having a big cookout dinner this evening, with new friends and lifelong friends. I'll be with you guys in spirit. Eat well, have fun, and... Pics or it didn't happen!! |

Photos when I get home and reduce their size. If you're on Facebook you can see them there. Great seeing Crusty along with Froggy and Court today. |

I'm home and I thoroughly enjoyed being there. I can't say the same about the rain I rode through on the way there. The ride home was really nice; it made up for the ride out. Since I didn't take any pictures, I won't post any. |

Crusty was the second person to arrive
Froggy was the next to arrive
Since everyone was parking here, I moved my bike over.
Finally, Court showed up as our table was ready.
When we left we saw all of these bikes. No idea who they were. |

I ended up taking "The Long Way Home." I put Google Navigator into "Avoid Highways" mode and it took me down some pretty cool and gnarly back roads to the Bridgeport Ferry terminal. I got there just as it was boarding. Once in Port Jefferson it was an easy ride home. I got home a little after 8:00 to a starving cat complaining that I hadn't fed him in so long! |

To The Dinosaur! So, yesterday was the Meet & Eat at the Dinosaur in Troy, NY. It was a day of mixed blessings. I’d been watching the weather for a couple of weeks. In the 10 day forecast, every day was sunny and mild except the 25th. It was supposed to have rain and thunderstorms all day. I kept watching, and hoping that the forecast would change; but for once, it was fairly accurate. I kept a frequent watch on the weather radar and by morning, I could see that there were bands of rain, but most of them had passed during the early morning. There was just one band that I was going to have to contend with when I set out. I decided that I would take the fastest route to Troy, and hopefully take the scenic and twisty route home. I wasn’t being stupid, though. I had my raingear on when I left the house in Hudson. It sprinkled on me several times as I proceeded west and even rained on me briefly, but nothing either serious or of any duration. Then, just as I was feeling that maybe I’d gotten lucky, the sky opened up. That last band had intensified and was waiting to excrete all its moisture on me. It freakin’ poured for about a half hour. Once again, I got soaked. The funny part is that as soon as I hit the New York border, the rain stopped and 20 miles later, the sun came out and by the time I got to the Dinosaur it was blue skies and fluffy white clouds. I was almost an hour early, but Jaime was already there. I pulled off my inadequate rain gear and we stood in the parking lot talking until Froggy arrived on his Buell. It was close to 1:00 by then, so we went in and reserved a table in the outside seating area. Just as our table was ready, Court arrived and we all went in and had a wonderful meal. We all got a three meat platter, though the meats and sides varied. I like the Dinosaur. It’s a comfortable place to eat. Their ribs aren’t nearly as good as Jim’s and their brisket isn’t anywhere near as good as Velvet Smoke’s Burnt Ends, but the food is good and it tastes like BBQ should. We sat and ate and talked for a long time. Court is a natural story teller and he regaled us with some fascinating stories. I especially enjoyed hearing about how Erik got stopped on the Interstate riding an experimental unregistered bike that had no numbers or headlights, and the guys from the factory talked the State Troopers into letting them take the bike, but the police could have Erik. We all left about 2:30 and we all left in the reverse order that we arrived. Court’s working 7 days a week on a project, so he had to get back to work. Then Froggy set out on his 1125. I waited until Jaime was almost ready, then I left. I stuck to my plan and rode through town until I picked up Route 2. I took Rt. 2 over the Taconic Trail and the Mohawk Trail. The road had been repaved since the last time I rode on it, both in New York and in Massachusetts and it was a very enjoyable ride. The Mohawk and Taconic Trails are wonderful roads as they twist and turn through the mountains in both states. If the weather had been a bit more cooperative, I would have ridden out on Rt.2 to Troy, but dropped down to Pittsfield and taken Routes 9, 116 and 8A back. That’s a very wonderful and scenic ride over more twisted roads. In any event, I arrived back in Hudson around dinner time. I skipped dinner, as I was still full from lunch. Took off all my clothes that were still wet in places and washed them. Then, I fell asleep early; I was whipped. I had a challenging ride, a good ride and spent Quality time with some great people. It was a good day |

I actually headed home to the Buell Bunker and Froggy came over for a short tour and about an hours worth of Buell stories . . . many of which remain in that "Classified" file . . . stuff like models that never saw the light of day and what the heck happened to all the leftover motors. I thought about locking him up in pursuit of OpSec. It was really a great time. The 3 Amigos are among that group of REAL riders . . . undeterred by weather, distance and the things that keep many home. I used to do that . . . read something about San Fran . . . jump on the S2 at midnight and just head West. I loved it a couple years ago when Chris (K12Pilot) jumped on a bike to go for a ride and ended up parked at a remote spot at the Northenmost tip of Nova Scotia. The highlight of the day was the sound of Froggy's bike coming up the drive. Dean Adam's not only makes good exhaust systems . . the sound wonderful. It's always been fun to see Jaime . . . another serious rider. When I first started coming to NY for Buell, his name popped up everywhere . . . kinda like the Russ Madsen of the East Coast. He was involved in a couple touring organizations and had a reputation as not only a serious rider, but a guy who made things happen. He was the ones that journalists sought out when doing articles about riding in and around NYC. And Crusty is Crusty . . . steady as can be and always fun to be with. He's involved in MA in relation to another Moto tale in the making getting a Sportster into someone's loving hands. His adventures are like a lifeline back to the home base of reality and why the true riders ride . . . for the pure love it it. Toss in some BBQ and you've made the perfect Sunday afternoon. Fun day . . . we may have to have a get together here at the bunker soon. |
