Originally it was all four Japanese factories. This seems to imply Suzuki and Kawasaki have dropped out. I've felt for awhile that part of the problem with electric motorcycles was every manufacturer going it their own way. Standardization will go a long way to eventually reducing costs and improve competition in the battery market. This has been discussed ad nauseum on the Electric Motorcycle Forum and one of the big issues most people don't know about is that those lithium batteries are HEAVY. It's not like your 85 year old mother is going to be able to swap batteries without a lot of assistance. Even the relatively small 3.6kWh battery in the Zero FX weighs about 50 lbs so pulling it from the bike to recharge at your desk will take some serious effort. This is a good FIRST step, though. I see a lot of potential here. |

That's an energetic response. I did get a charge out of the news, but it isn't all that shocking. |

The big heavy battery can be split on multiple small lightweight batteries. |

"The big heavy battery can be split on multiple small lightweight batteries." Is that supposed to be funny? Because thats really funny. We could give them names like the old AA, AAA, C system? Like maybe call them 18650 and have about 3.2 volts a piece? Ya, thats sounds about right... |

Technically, those are CELLS, not batteries... |

Understandably, there is also some resistance to this idea. |

Hoping I live long enough to ride an LS218, by Lightning, currently the fastest production motorcycle. |

But this thread has quite a draw, for those who wish to keep current. It will improve what has up till now been a tough cell ... |

Court, of all the people here, I thought you'd really get a charge out of it. |

I wonder if I should buy one. I'd have to charge it to my credit card and I'm really resisting that. Still, I feel pretty amped up. |
