Progress:
I am saving the tub till it is time to swap in the new one. Hopefully I will only be without a shower for one day. Next on the list is removing the nails from the studs. The electric towel rack arrived today. I can set up the wiring and wood in the wall for it's mounting. I am installing handle supports in the walls for my elderly friends and want the rack to be solid enough in case someone tries to use it for balance. It is stainless and I could see someone mistaking it for a grab bar. (Message edited by ourdee on January 19, 2021) |

I have some file work to do on the replacement for Lil Red's left side bracket. Then a coat of paint and Matthew is sending me a new decal. Made me sick when Lil Red took off without me.
These highway pegs make all the difference for my old knees on longer rides. |

I snuck these in today. Tomorrow is tub day. I read the instructions on this tub and surround. Crazyness. They call for mortar under it and the wall studs required are about 9" on center. There is a lot more to the framing than that. crazy.... I'll try to take a pic. after I build the framing. |

R.D., my first house back in '77 not only had the popcorn, but glitter as well: red in the Master bedroom, and gold in the guest room and LR. I learned early on that few people actually look up at ceilings... |

Today started with a slice of ham and an egg. Washed down with a cup of coffee. Then the making of a mess and picking it all up.

What another mess this was. I have always hated that the shower head pointed to one side and the valve and spicket were angled to the other side. Who ever sweat soldered it in paid no attention to details. I re-soldered the head on in line with the valve. Then actually mounted the valve to the studs in a straightened condition, and centered....
I bought a whole new drain but the old one is more adjustable so I am re-using it and installing the new shiny bits.

THANK YOU!!! For putting the showerhead pipe ABOVE the fiberglass surround!!! I'm so ANGRY with the guy who built my house. He overbuilt everything, but he must have shared Napoleon's tailor because all the goddamned shower heads are at the same level as my freakin' NOSTRILS. I've added those swingarm-things, and they work...but they look like a stork sticking out of my walls. I've thought about doing a small rehab-mod to the bathrooms and moving my showerhead pipes up to the drywall above the surrounds, but I'd have to get some chrome swingarm plugs to fill the holes in the fiberglass... |

Joe, Remove the chromed pipe from the wall. Thread in a nipple, then a 90 degree pointing up, thread in a 12" pipe, another 90 degree, then put your chrome in that for your shower head. That will give you another 12" of height. I've been fixing other people's work all my life. You would love the shower head. It uses a magnet to hold it up there. I drilled out all the water saver valving in it. |

I wanted to put mine higher than it is, but I have a short aunt that visits and she can't reach any higher than where the handle on the shower head is. |

Lucky? Stumbled across a 6" jointer for a good price last week. Stored in a hanger and had some corrosion on the beds that cleaned up fine. Just getting all the settings correct and cleaning up rust. Been working around not having one for years. Shop is tight, but worth finding the room. |

Day of rest today. Much needed. I may start dri-wall tomorrow. I swept and cleaned today. I like a clean job site when I start the day.

If you guys are anything like me, you hate moving sheets of dri-wall by yourselves.
I use my roll around stool for transport in the house. I cut in the garage and install in the house. I lay down old towels at door ways to clean dust off shoes. Keeps floors pretty clean.

I may have put the last layer of mud on today. One more sanding and then a coat of Kilz. I always paint bathrooms with Kilz for a first coat. Want to know the next project? Tracey and I had discussed what we would do if the government returned any more of our money. The house has been in want of a new front and rear door since we moved in. Today we went to Lowes just to look at new doors. First door we liked was $4,000. Then we looked for doors for our house. Lowes is ending a brand name and switching to another. And there they were.... On sale.... Our door budget was planned out to be $1,400. For these 2 steel doors to get into my van was just under $600. Finally, a project may come in under budget. I thought the doors would be gone if we waited for the money to arrive. So, I bought them.

What Crusticle said. On a completely separate topic: I noticed youn's are using bottled water. Why? I've always felt that a much better alternative to buying all that water, lugging it home, storing it somewhere and then dealing (or not) with the wasted plastic bottles is simply to go with filtered water. Even with one of those simple "Pur" filters, you'd save gobs of $$$ and waste a lot less plastic. We take all of our drinking water through the fridge (also filtered ice BTW), with a GE inline filter under the sink. Pardon the query, I was just curious. Sometimes I'll be leaving the grocery and see someone trying to lug a couple of cases of water whilst attempting to control their anklebiters too- I get tempted to ask them the same question. When I lived in Tampa we'd get our gallon jugs refilled at the machine outside. I haaaaaated Florida water with all the sulfur. Didn't even like it for the shower.

Bottled water: Wife had cancer. Only thing different in her life prior to cancer was that she had started trying to drink the recommended amount of water. Flat landers are used to farm fields. Farmers use chemicals. City water comes from rivers. Farm field run-off goes into rivers. Indianapolis water tastes great and comes from the river. There is about another 5 years till the big underground reservoir is completed in Indianapolis to try and keep sewage out of the river when it rains. (In addition to providing our customers with safe and reliable drinking water, Citizens is responsible for the collection and treatment of wastewater, commonly known as sewage, within the Indianapolis/Marion County Boundaries.) With the parts per million at over 400 in my tap water, we opt for "Ice Mountain" water. I have a Berkey water filter for cooking water. It filters through the Black Berkey® Purification Elements then filters through the Berkey® PF-2™ Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements. The prepper side of me likes having a back-up water supply. The easiest way to make sure I rotate the back-up water is to FIFO (first in first out) cases of water. I pay about ten cents a bottle. That is in the budget. The best spring watter I have had comes out of a spring on War Valley Road a few miles outside of Churchill, Tn. Ice Mountain comes from 3 springs in Mi. |

When I put the bamboo in the rest of the house, the bathroom got what I call a vinyl floor. A very tight fitting flooring. The house is on a slab with the heating duct work running under the slab. Floor is not heated but doesn't feel cold to the feet. Tracey has throw rugs she puts down in there. The heated towel rack is her doing. |

Thank you Kevin. I got paint on the ceiling today. Way better than the popcorn. YES! Light and vent are closed up. I am still looking at crown molding. Thinking something between 3 and 4 inch.
